What the hell ! It has been 6 months since its publish and no one has written anything about it. Isn't there any single guitar lover out here ? Say yeah. Anyway I will take this as a privilege to be the first one to review. Just don't know how to start.

Like 'Electric Guitars - The Illustrated Encyclopedia' by Tony Bacon I fell in love with this book at first sight. I was eagerly waiting for this book from Amazon and checking my door every now and then even though I know postman knocks only once a day. Xmas pressure was heavy at work and I was working more than 13 hours everyday for weeks. I returned home all exhausted. All I could think of was eat and sleep straight away just to be ready to wake up early the next morning. There this book was waiting on my bed. At once I tore off the Amazon cover and revealed its black, shiny, big, heavy, beautiful body and caressed the engraving that says 'Six String Heroes, photographs of Great Guitarists by Neil Zlozower, forward by Steve Vai, text by Steven Rosen' and pics of the guitarists all around it. Forget about eating and sleeping ! I went on through it for hours until after midnight very late. This is just to tell how much I love guitars.

The book opens with nice, raw and honest forward by Steve Vai which you can also read in Vai's web page. It's followed by introduction by Neil Zlozower. And then come Jimmy Page, Brian May, Joe Satriani, Rory Galagher, Steve Lukather, The Edge, Bruce Springsteen, Lita Ford, Joan Jett, Prince and lots of them the Kirchangers. The greatest influence of many six string heroes - Jimmy Hendrix (and also others) is missing here.

THIS BOOK IS AMAZING !!!!! 20 Nov 2009

This is the BEST BOOK that's ever been published for guitar lovers; PERIOD! 150 of the world's best guitarists with photos from the world's best rock & roll photographer and interview snips from a reknown jounalist??? SHOW ME ANOTHER THAT COMES EVEN CLOSE TO THIS!!!
My hat's off to Neil for capturing the real essence of each player and doing what he does best; immortalizing the moment! You can almost hear the sustain of guitars when you open the pages! No other photographer in history has left a footprint on R&R like NZ has and these are images that will remain permanantly etched in your mind!
My hat's off to Steve Rosen for opening the hearts and minds of these amazing players to show you what's inside; you can almost smell the whiskey when you read them! Every player becomes more human and really makes the pages come alive. Steve's contributions are a perfect companion for Neil's masterpiece.

Bottom line: THIS BOOK IS ROCK & ROLL!!!

Must own for all fans of guitars 9 Aug 2010
By T. Bunch - Published on
Format: Hardcover
"At first glance, one would think that this is just a collection of photographs in a book. But once you take a look at any page in the book, you realize that the photos are accompanied by quotes from the subjects themselves. And these quotes are about playing guitar, they are relevant. It is a fantastic look into the mindset of the best rock guitarists of all time. Through the words of the guitarists and the imagery captured in each photo, you get an intimate look at the world that is rock guitar.

As you flip from page to page, more and more rock legends are presented. With each photo, you realize that Neil Zlozower truly has an eye for capturing the moment, he is a master at his art.

The book is not in any chronological order, nor does it need to be read in any particular fashion. Guitarists from various genres of rock n roll are represented from blues to heavy metal. The only legendary guitarists missing are Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Highlights in the book include Randy Rhoads, Dimebag Darrell, Lita Ford and the man himself, Les Paul.

The quotes from the guitarists are taken from interviews conducted by Steven Rosen and they will appeal to fans and guitarists alike. They add to the photos and make this book a must for anyone has ever loved to hear the magical sounds of a guitar."

Great stories about some iconic axes! I suppose one could quibble about some that should have been included, but this is amazingly complete. Some nice surprises.

This was a great book if you like looking at pictures of guitar players. I happen to like I like looking at pictures of athletes and the like seeing a moment frozen in time. But what makes the book even better is the anecdotes that go along with the pictures. It's a fun book to read and look at.
