Amazing,
This review is from: Six (Audio CD)
Well what can you say about this album. Its probably the most intelligent album from any band in the late 90's. To those that don't understand it then it is a pity because this has everything! A guitarist pulling off amazing sounds, operatic vocals. Brilliant philosophical lyrics concerning life, the universe and everything. Dont forget drumming and bass playing the tightest Mansun ever produced. I defy anyone with musical taste to not thoroughly enjoy this. Think Pink floyd updated for the nineties, ITS THAT GOOD! Some songs would have benefitted from cutting down such as "six" and "shotgun". Although the "six" single version got remixed by Arthur Baker of New Order fame and is worth tracking down. Much more concise and structured. Beneath all the effects these are brilliant pop songs play by Northerners deranged on L.S.D and god knows what else. Legacy reached number 7 in the charts and it's a depressing song because it's real and not manafactured and about life. If you enjoy trippy ambient soundscapes then you WILL ENJOY THIS. And you owe it to yourself to own this. Forget what NME said about this band because they were just jealous of Mansun's talent and never backed them. Paul Draper was probably too outspoken for his own good but with music to believe in like this who cares? At the time of its release he said it would be the best thing to come out in years and this didn't make him any friends in the press and attracted lots of claims of pretentiousness from untalented journalists. BUY IT, LISTEN, YOU WON'T BE DISSAPOINTED

Tribute to my favourite album on a sad, sad day,
This review is from: Six (Audio CD)
I wanted to take the opportunity to pay tribute to my favourite album on the day on which I've found out that the band behind it have split up. I could write many pages on what makes this album special but how can I add anything to the glowing praise of the reviews already on this site. They speak volumes for the effect this album can have on you if you only give it the chance. Buy this album and listen to it 100 times in succession. It cannot be touched.

Six gold gongs,

It should be listened to by everyone, everywhere. But then again nobodies perfect. This is probably one of the most exciting rock albums ever released!! There is no way you can get tired of this album - none of it is boring - even after 25 listens you're still noticing new bits or instruments (i.e - if you listen hard enough on Legacy in places you can hear break-beats in places) - really hidden DJ scratches, strange noises and kazoo's, and more!! The opening 3 Tracks are sublime, then for "Fall Out" the album loses a bit of momentum, but we are launched straight into the rush of "Seratonin", and then the sublime "cancer", which contains one of the most beautiful piano and guitar solo's ever! Ok "Witness to a murder" was a bad idea, but in this album, it doesn't seem strange! "Television" has a sublime guitar solo and ending whilst nothing ive heard rivals the blistering "Special/Blown It" - one of the greatest rock songs ever written. We all know the 2 excellent closers "Legacy" and "Being A Girl". If you just want pop music buy Robbie or Britney, if you want an album that can claim to be influenced by Underworld, Aphex Twin, Tears for Fears, The Sex Pistols and The Velevet Undeground at the same time - then buy this!!!
