5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating Insight 10 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A fascinating book about brilliant bands and proper DJ's playing tiny clubs for a crate of ale and changing the face of music as they go! If you were there, you'll love the nostalgia,if you weren't, you'll wish you had been.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 2 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Just bought this on the strength of the recent Radio 4 documentary on Roger Eagle - a man who remains an obscure figure to most but who had a monumental impact on the music scenes in Manchester and Liverpool.

A must read for anyone wanting an alternative (non-Factory) account of the north's music scene.

5.0 out of 5 stars sit down and read this!! 29 Oct 2012
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
All good music fans, this a must read.interesting from the word go,Bill Sykes has done an excellent job, charting the history of Roger Eagle. From Eagle,s early days as dj at the legendary Twisted Wheel Club in Manchester,to running the Erics Club in Liverpool, and everything inbetween and after. The book is mainly interviews with close friends of Eagle, people who knew him well,so you get a true view of the happenings from the early 1960s,70s.80s and into the 90s.The bands and artistes that Eagle brought to the North West Of England in those times ,is incredible.Covering Blues ,soul,R and B,Funk,
Reggae, Punk, and good rock and roll.Without Roger Eagle,it is my opinion that many of these artistes\bands would not have got the chance. This a great Read.Any serious music fan must just sit down and read this!!.

5.0 out of 5 stars Memories 13 Feb 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Sykes has written a top book here for anyone who was interested in some of the venues mentioned during the 60's. Although I remember some things about the mods and rockers I unfortunately was about 3x years too young. Nevertheless it did not stop me trying to get into the Mojo and such places. Cracking good read.
