Biography

It should come as no surprise that one of rock's most democratic bands would
come up with a most democratic album. For Release (Aug. 18, 2009, Rock Ridge
Music), their seventh disc of original material, Sister Hazel
(vocalist/guitarist Ken Block, guitarist/vocalist Drew Copeland, lead
guitarist Ryan Newell, bassist Jett Beres and drummer Mark Trojanowski)

This album is made up of the bands indie demos way back in 94 just as they were startin out. I've had it 2 days and im totally hooked. Its unbelievable how talented these guys really are but as yet, this type of music just doesnt seem to cut it over here in popaholic britain.
After the first listen of this album ur totally hooked and have to keep listening to it again.
Here are the stand out songs of the album
Feel It:- u just cant help to sing along to this one
Sometimes:-Amazing guitaring(most of the album is!) really jumpy tune
All for you:-Ballad, amazing singing by the entire band in this one, really easy to play for all u strummers out there.
Will not follow:-have to mention this one for the harmonica solo at the start which is really cool
One Nation:-Amazing song concerning racism. "You know we walked the same _ we talked the same, Although u never knew my name, but u were told when we were young, that i was not the same, u know he's not the same, he's not the same , and then u never asked my name"
Running through the fields(for jeffrey):- this song is probs my favourite, really folky and once again an amazing vocal performance from the entire band.
the rest of the songs are really good as well with funky based wah-wah riffs and stuff like that. The last song is a sam cooke song called bring it on home which i love to sing along with.
I recommend these guys to people who are into , Counting Crows, Hootie, Matchbox 20,Dave matthews and stuff like that, U know who u are.

Sister Hazels self titled album has the ability to create an uplifting feeling. From the first track to the last, you'll love every moment. If youre a Counting Crows fan, you'll love Sister Hazel. If youre not a Counting Crows fan, you'll still love Sister Hazel. This 1994 album features the ever popular fan favourites All for you and Feel it to name but two.

Sister Hazel is the groups first album. There are two others each slighty different. This album is the most Folky and less like modern bands like Counting Crows and Matchbox 20. The band has been around for a long time(before-1994). This album is full of good music written by the band for the sake of good music not to make money. The best track is no. 3, called 'All for You' (acoustic). The bands name, Sister Hazel was an African-American woman who ran "Sister hazel's rescue mission",helping unfortunate people. The band seem to put the feeling of kindness and "unconditional concern for all beings" into their music. This is the impression you get from the inside album cover and track5 'one Nation'. It is a great album and I strongly advise you buy it. I enjoyed the album because it was good music and easy to listen to!!! 4 stars

Just plain ol' good music! 18 Sept. 2001
By FreefFreefieFreefinatorFreeforAllFreeferoni - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
It's not to say that Sister Hazel's self-titled album isn't unlike anything you've heard before. The catchy tunes, simple riffs, and open vocals will remind you of any number of bands: Hootie and the Blowfish, Counting Crows, Third Eye Blind. That doesn't mean, though, that "Sister Hazel" isn't a great album. The music is simple and the lyrics are sometimes downright cheesey ("One Nation"). But nonetheless, Sister Hazel delivers a precision product that pleases with the intensity, compassion and soulfullness in a way that will likely conjur an image of their namesake.
Whether I like "Somewhere More Familiar" or "Fortress" less or more than the self-titled "Sister Hazel" all depends on the day that you ask me. "Sister Hazel" is undoubtedly more bluesey than the others, especially prominent in "Will Not Follow" and "Bring It On Home" which also draws on some obvious gospel influences. You'll find yourself bee-boppin' to the upbeats of "Feel It" and "Sometimes". The toned down harmonious version of "All for You" while heartfelt reminds me a little too much of Extreme's "More Than Words" to be my favorite version, but still an 'ok' rendition.
All in all, I still find myself continually impressed with the five member band from Gainesville Florida. They're well worth the listen.

Wonderful! 17 Jun. 2000

I first became aware of Sister Hazel on the Fleetwood Mactribute album, where they sang "Gold Dust Woman" and justblew me away. So I scampered right over to Amazon.com to pick up a full Sister Hazel disk, and I've gotten blown away again. How much blowing away can one guy tolerate? Lots, when the music is this good. The sound to me is reminiscent both of Crosby Stills & Nash and, especially, the Bodeans, and in both cases that's a big compliment coming from me. This is good, good, good stuff -- slightly twangy, rocking, acoustic-y and just great!

Absolutely Worth The Buy! 11 May 1999

I had been listening to a Cleveland radio station at work. I had been bored with the music that had been on lately. All of a sudden, there's this song on called ALL FOR YOU. I was immediately hooked! I quickly did a web search for the song because the station failed to mention who the group was. Lo and behold, I had discovered Sister Hazel.
This CD combines several styles of music with pure tones that exhibit the talent of Sister Hazel at its best. I am a big fan of acoustic guitar playing, since it is an art in and of itself. Sister Hazel does not disappoint. If you like groups such as Barenaked Ladies, the Eagles and the like, you will be playing this CD over and over again.
This CD is also one where I don't skip tracks. Each song has its own strength. The arrangements are solid, solid vocals nailing each and every song.
Absolutely worth the buy!

Not just a demo CD! 13 May 2000
By mikeazzo22@hotmail.com - Published on Amazon.com

For an album branded "raw" and "indie demos" I thought this was going to be a badly produced and dodgy album but BELEIVE ME IT IS NOT!
This album has some great material on like FEEL IT and SOMETIMES. Sister Hazel are a fun band and the musicians are of a very high standard. It is a more bluesy album to SMF. I personally prefer Somewhere more familar to this album but if you like one - you'll like the other. Sister Hazel are a class act and are very underated.

Better than Fortress -- almost as good as SMF! 4 Oct. 2000
By jeffsdate - Published on Amazon.com

I thought this album might be a little rough and iffy, since it's their first, but I was pleasantly surprised! The music is less hard-rocking than on Fortress, and on the whole very solid. I especially love their cover of Sam Cooke's "Bring it on Home" - I didn't know it was going to be the same song and they do such a GREAT job with it, I really got into it and started singing along.
