Amazon.co.uk Review

In Sister Act Whoopi Goldberg plays a Reno lounge singer who hides out as a nun when her villainous boyfriend (Harvey Keitel) goes gunning for her. Maggie Smith is the mother superior who has to cope with Whoopi's unorthodox behaviour, but the cute script turns the tables and shows the latter energising the stodgy convent with song and attitude. A real crowd-pleaser and a perfect vehicle for Goldberg, this is a happy experience all around. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

LOVE Sister Act, a brilliant movie. Clever and funny and so good at chearing you up when you are down! You cannot watch this movie and not smile! Brilliant!

Vegas singer Delores (Whoopi Goldberg) walks in on her boyfriend shooting a man and subsequently must be placed in the witness protection programme. She is put in the last place anybody would ever look for her...a nunery! At first she hates it but eventually makles friends with some of the eccentric nuns and leads them in singing (with her jazzed up hymns).

A great movie, light-hearted and makes you feel good and as always Whoopi is great and funny! One of my favourite movies. Very highly reccomended.

This is a warning that this movie is not correctly encoded as 1.85:1 when playing back on a widescreen TV - you may experience both letterbox AND pillarbox bars on the screen resulting in the movie playing in a small window in the centre of your TV.

It appears that the initial Language Selection and Play/Scene Selection screens are in 4:3 format so display on a widescreen TV with vertical pillar boxes on the sides. When the movie then plays, it is displayed INSIDE this 4:3 area. Since it has been recorded in 1.85:1 it then gets horizontal letterboxes added to the top and bottom resulting in a small copy of the movie playing in the centre of your screen.

The only solution to this on my TV was to adjust the playback options from Auto to Force Original which stretched the initial 4:3 Language Selection and Playback screens to be full width (with the expected distortion.). When the movie played, it was now full width but still only had the original height so was grotesquely stretched.

Favourtie Film 8 Nov 2008
Format:DVD
This is my favourite film, and has been for years. I've seen it at least 200 times and can repeat all the lines and the songs throughout the film. I know, really sad! I can't help it though. It's such a feel good funny film with a great soundtrack. If you haven't seen it, you're missing out!

SISTER ACT
I really like this film. Whoopi Goldberg is brilliant as ever and its a better story than you think its gonna be. Quite an old film now but a good classic.

Sister Act, Whoopi at her best
Sister Act was by far the better story than the sequel. A feelgood factor film with the highest credit going to Whoopi Goldberg who was sensational throughout. Read more

Still hasn't lost it's charm after all these years
I must have first seen this film when I was 4 or 5, and remember loving it at the time. 14 years later I can happily say that 'Sister Act' still hasn't lost it's charm. Read more

Excellent
A very good film, not as girly as it looks.
It's more of a comedy come drama rather than a girly film. Read more
