a brilliant bit of kit,not to be confused with cheap ones you get from pound stores across the country.its very well made(made in new zealand)doesnt feel flimsy when microwaved, holds a full tin of soup and dishwasher safe.would of got five stars only for the fact it leaks slightly from the steam vent, which is a real shame,as it would of been great to put in my back pack for work, instead i have to bring this and the can of soup,a real shame but if you can forgive this its a really useful item that you will use again and again, well worth having.

I came here to leave a most enthusiastic review of these soup mugs but I've been kind of stopped in my tracks on seeing the current price of this item. The price has absolutely rocketed since my order for three of these mugs on 20 Dec 2012. I ordered three mugs and paid a total of £11.97 for them, including delivery. The exact same order now would cost me £19.80 !!! Just what is going on? I have heard of inflation but this is ridiculous! (Incidentally, I had already bought a single mug previously and now I own four, so they must be good.)

So, to continue, even though I now feel "down" to say the least concerning the prices, these are very handy soup mugs to own and yes, the product is excellent and does everything I expect of it.

I now live alone and yet I've bought four of these mugs. Why? Because I *love* home made soup!
I'm getting on a bit and the main hassle with making a batch of home made soup is eventually decanting it from the cooking pot into a large container to sit in the fridge, then decanting a (large) portion from said container into a microwave bowl or small saucepan to reheat each day over the next few days. These days I often eat soup as a "main meal" with home made bread, so a decent portion is called for. These mugs hold over 650 ml which equals about a can and a half of standard Heinz soup tins, to give you some idea of capacity.

I now make my home made soup with approx 2 litres stock, then when cooked I instantly eat one portion while quickly cooling the rest - by a fan blowing on the pot - and I then ladle the remaining four large portions into the soup mugs. They sit very comfortably in my fridge, 2 x 2 sat on top of each other. As anyone who makes home made soups/stews etc.

Good size, holds a full carton of soup (if you get that hungry!). Microwave-proof, dish-washer proof and freezer safe.

The seal seems good although I try to keep it upright just to be safe. For those who say it leaks through the steam vent, you might be interested to know that the lid from the 'Sistema Breakfast On The Go' bowl fits exactly onto this mug - I think I'll be using that instead.

Just got this (not from Amazon - sorry) from a well known supermarket, at almost half the price here.

Anyway, my first job was to fill it with water, up-end it and shake a little.
Small drops of water came out. Not a big leak, but the mug is not something I can
Depend on in my pack without a plastic bag round it (unless it's empty).
And the leak seems to come from the vent.

Where did I get mine? Look at the capital letters of the above four lines for a clue.

At the price I paid, I'm not worried.

Not just for heating soup. You can heat more or less anything in these mugs from tinned goods (baked beans to stewed steak) or use them to scramble eggs (or heat soup!). They really are versatile.

The lids clip down tightly and you can open the steam vent on the lid which prevents steam building up during heating. Stops you from getting burnt when you open the lid and keeps the microwave clean - no splashes. Side handle means you have something to hold onto when the product's red hot. I find a half full mug plenty for one serving of soup, beans or raviol.

One of those gadgets I bought on impulse and now wouldn't be without. Hard working, durable and last for ages. Will survive no end of wear and tear. Only one word of caution; heating tomato based products, bakes beans or tomato soup for instance, will stain the plastic. I have 5 different colours and use the darker ones for that purpose. Dishwasher safe but easy to clean by hand.

Good idea and it works well, the only thing which i do not
like is that the lid stains very easily and looks awful.

I was excited to get this mug as I've recently been given a soup maker. Needles to say my excitement soon turned to disappointment - it leaks in my lunch bag even though I keep it as upright as possible, which means everything gets covered in soup of the day. I double check all deals and the steam hole before setting off but still it leaks

In the autumn I like eating 'winter warmers' for my lunch at work - i.e. home-made soups, stews, casseroles etc.

This mug has enabled me to get rid of all 'interim storage' for this sort of food in my fridge and freezer. I simply ladle the food directly into a number of these mugs, wait for them to cool sufficiently then move them into the freezer. This cuts down on the washing up and means that I have a ready supply of mugged-up work lunches, ready to grab on my way out in the morning.

Because the food is still frozen during my journey to work, I do not need to worry about the contents spilling during my commute (some other reviewers found that the steam vent leaked liquid during their commute).

The mug itself is excellent quality and very durable .. the perfect size too for a hearty meal. The steam vent for the microwave is a genius invention, ensuring that the walls of your microwave are not spattered with liquid. They are also dishwasher-safe.

I love these mugs so much that I have several of them. They are not the cheapest but they are without a doubt the best quality, and the product is generally just one of those things that make life a bit easier.
