Biography

Bayside lead singer/rhythm guitarist and founding member Anthony Raneri has been waiting 10 years—since he formed the rock group in Queens, N.Y. in the winter of 2000—to make an album like Killing Time, which represents a number of firsts for the band named after his hometown.

The album is the band’s debut for new label Wind-up Records after four releases on ... Read more in Amazon's Bayside Store

Bayside will never be a big band. Too many people hear the word "emo" and run for miles. This misconception is a shame, because Bayside are a very good band.

It's a pretty heavy album. Starts off with the explosive and aptly named "Masterpiece" and ends in the hopelessness of "Guardrail" - the two strongest on the album. Flashes of brilliance throughout, (How to fix everything, Alcohol and alter boys, Just Enough to Love you) hint at a brilliant future.

We need more bands like this, it's such a shame they're doomed to a non- existance because of their genre label.

BAYSIDE ROCK! Such good guitar riffs by Jack all the way through and amazing meaningful vocals by Antony. I love this band so much and out of the hundreds of CD's on my shelf, this one has been playing all year round.

BUY IT!

This album is absolutely amazing... an supreme electric start (Masterpiece), even literary references (Talking of Michelangelo is based on The Love Song of Alfred J Prufrock by TS Eliot... something for you trivia fans), and some of the best eighties style guitar solos seen this side of 1990 (If You're Bored). People may dismiss the emo label but this band's influences include The Beatles and Jeff Buckley (and don't worry there's no trace of screamo). Whilst the songs may seem all doom and gloom, the highlight of the album A Synonym For Acquiesce is a beautiful song (good for a hangover, I've tried it) that inspects the values of just slipping away after a bad relationship but ends on the emphatic "I'll never waste another second, I have wasted so much time", looking forward surely, not a slit-your-wrists depression song. This album deserves to be heard by everyone as it doesn't alienate anyone... the issues it deals with are easily accessible and the music isn't extremely heavy unlike the majority of the genre so... BUY IT, then they'll come and do more gigs over here and I can go see them!

Bayside have, in one album, managed to smash the perception that all Victory Record bands are generic 'emo'. Their melodic rock / punk sound, combined with their strong vocals, make Bayside a band that should not be disregarded just because of the genre they have unfortunately be placed in.
Starting with 'Masterpiece', 'Sirens and Condolences' starts as it means to go on - heavy guitars and brooding lyrics. From beginning to end the album is filled with raw energy and attitude - the highlights being 'Phone Call From Poland' and 'Alcohol and Altar Boys', two tracks which really showcase the talent of every single member.
Although compared to Alkaline Trio, Hawthorne Heights, and a list of other bands, Bayside have done what many bands these days fail to do - they have found their own unique sound, and it works. Although not a 'Masterpiece', 'Sirens and Condolences' isnt too far off.

Bayside are an amazing band! Don’t be put off by the word “Emo”. If you’re into Alkaline Trio and Hawthorne Heights, you should defiantly give this record a listen it will surprise you.
