Siren Song by Cat Adams
This is the second book in this series and while it you can read as a standalone without too much difficulty or confusion, you will enjoy it more if you read the novel Blood Song first.
Celia is having a bad very bad time of it lately. She has turned into an abomination, has recently found out that she is also part Siren, her best friend in the world was murdered, her `boyfriend' has gotten someone else pregnant, and everyone is out to kill her. To add insult to injury, a curse was just revealed to Celia, one that has been with her since she was a child; or so the good Dr Sloan thinks, (and that will go a long way to explain why Celia's life has been filled with so much pain and anguish, starting as a very young child). In addition, the King of Rusland is still having Demon Spawn problems as well as a coup attempt. At least Celia isn't being locked up for the good of the population any time soon!
This book may have a little less violent action than Blood Song, but not a whole heck of a lot less. In this book, we get to see just how nasty that Cassandra can be, how corrupt some of the cops are, meet her Siren relatives, and find out the Demon still wants to toy and have Celia. Plus a whole lot more.
There is actually a lot going on in this novel but not all of it will end up in a bloody mess...oh don't get me wrong, Celia still is kicking butt and taking names, but a lot of the `action' is emotional but with merely a side dish of violence thrown in.
Written in the usual first person, with the usual careful attention to details, this book is a pleasure to read. This is one of the few series (and authors) that I have no trouble reading one book right after another. The Cat Adams team doesn't make a habit of repeating too much back story, just enough to slightly refresh your memory. So this not only makes it a pleasure for long-time readers to enjoy, but makes it easy for someone who may pick up a middle book and try it without reading the previous books.
