Thanks for the Mysteries!, 10 April 2009
This review is from: The Siren of Salamanca and Other Stories (Paperback)
Albert Einstein once said "It is entirely possible that behind the perception of our senses worlds are hidden of which we are unaware".
No statement could be more apt in summarizing this enthralling collection of tales.
The skill in Brenda's writing lies not only in the mystery she has woven into her stories - and mystery there certainly is a-plenty - but more importantly in the way she imbues each one with a degree of credibility seldom equalled in works of this genre.
The characters and plots are as varied as they are fascinating: a bi-locating wife who haunts her philandering spouse; a ghostly girl lighting the flare path to safety on a deserted airfield; a menacing doll that refuses to go away; the subtle vengeance wrought by a strange lady in green; lovers parted by a slip in time; the spiritual return to a place of death in Civil War Spain.....
If all this sounds like pure fantasy, then read on, and I guarantee that any initial scepticism will soon turn to thoughts of "Well, maybe..."
"The Siren of Salamanca and Other Stories" is a rewarding and unforgettable read for anyone who enjoys a finely crafted tale, and who is willing to step through the barrier of disbelief to allow themselves a glimpse of that hidden world lying beyond our everyday perception.

Brenda to Brenda, 13 Dec 2008
This review is from: The Siren of Salamanca and Other Stories (Paperback)
Brenda's book has a varied assortment of short stories, many from her own experiences. All of them are entertaining and thought provoking. I read the book from cover to cover and enjoyed every story - my favourite being Green Lady. Having been to Rome on holiday, I recognised the buildings she so deliciously described through the eyes of the hungry and lost boys.
Nice Kitty is an amusing story with an interesting twist at the end and others, such as the title story are downright brilliant.
Thank you Brenda for an entertaining book.
