To anyone living in Surrey Sir Nigel brings the area to life at a time when Guildford was a vibrant market town in the days of Knights, the castle was alive, the King resident in his Palace at Guildford and Sir Nigel's Chain of Armour being made in Tunsgate - mind blowing drama

I purchased this title as part of an omnibus, including the white company an two other of Sir Arthur C. Dolye's works.

Although I am at this stage only in the early development of The White Company, Sir Nigel is without question one of the greatest books I have ever read. Sir Arthur's poetic turn of prose, and the wonderful chivalrous adventures of Sir Nigel and the great Chandos have given me an enriched appreciation for both the period and for Sir Arthur's works.

I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in literature, an interest in historical fiction, or indeed, just a great yarn.

I only hope that the White Company can live up to the exceptional standard set by Sir Nigel (and by all accounts, it does).

A.C. Doyle is always remembered for Sherlock Holmes, which whilst excellent reading overshadows his other Creations of Sir Nigel and his White Company and Prof. Challenger and His band of Explorers. In this First Novel of Sir Nigel we see the young lad prepare himself for the tourney and battlefields of medieval france. Where he quickly learns that not all value honour as he does. It's a well paced novel moving from the english shires to sea-duels against Spainards and thence to the couldron that was france.
