5.0 out of 5 stars Marabi at it's awesomw best 31 Mar 2008
By C. Oli
Format:Audio CD
This has to be the finest example of South African Jazz other wise known as Marabi. Developed in the 50's during the height of apartheid this was the soundtrack of the illegal beer dens (amaShabibni) as well as the dancehalls in the townships. This is also very reminiscent of the big band sound - think Ellington in Soweto or Gauteng ands you won't be far off. Do not hesitate to purchase this one "Sip 'n Fly". A must for Jazz lovers. The composition and execution is flawless.

5.0 out of 5 stars South African Jazz at its best 25 July 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
If you like 'mbaqanga' (Township Jazz, originating in the black townships of South Africa), then this CD is for you. Lively, unique rhythms that will make any South African ex-patriate long for his 'home'.
