More About the Author

Sue-Ellen Welfonder is a USA Today Bestselling author who writes Scottish medieval romances for Grand Central Publishing. As time allows, she also writes as Allie Mackay, penning contemporary paranormals, mostly set in the Scottish Highlands.
Her twenty-year airline career allowed her to see the world, but it was always to Scotland that she returned. She spent most of her adult life living in Europe, using that time to explore as many castle ruins, medieval abbeys, and stone circles, as possible. She still visits Scotland whenever she can.
Proud of her own Hebridean ancestry, she belongs to two clan societies and loves attending Highland Games. In addition to Scotland, her greatest passions are medieval history, the paranormal, nature, and animals. She enjoys long walks and bicycling, loves haggis, and writes at a 450-year-old desk that once stood in a Bavarian castle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid start to a new series! 21 Jan 2011
By Christie - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Sins of a Highland Devil begins the story of three clans, The Camerons, The MacDonalds, and the Mackintoshes, forced by the King to battle for rights to the Glen of Many Legends after the heiress to the land passed leaving no testament of who will inherit. Until this point things have been mostly amicable among the clans. James Cameron, chief of the Cameron clan, finds himself falling for Lady Catriona MacDonald, sister of the chief of the MacDonald clan. The feelings they have intensify, but both know a marriage between them can't work because they come from rival clans, and the battle for the land they both call home is looming.

This is a fantastic start to a new series. A delightful mix of romance and fantasy. Both the main and secondary characters are well developed, and truly a pleasure to spend time with. The author has an amazingly descriptive style of writing. I was impressed that she wrote the romantic rendezvous and blood drenched battles with equal passion and narrative. I felt as if I was standing among the Highlanders on the Glen of Many Legends. The ghost story that played out over the course of the plot was a nice addition.

As far as main characters are concerned, James and Catriona are top notch. Catriona's embodies such a large amount of sass and fire. I loved her passion for life. The sexual tension between the two love birds was intense. James was kind without sacrificing the strength and power that goes along with being a Highlander. Such amazing characters! I've also developed a little crush on James's cousin Colin. As if I needed another book boyfriend ;) I hope we see more of him as this series continues. This is a series I can't wait for more of. I'd recommend this to fans of historical romance and ill-fated love.

4.0 out of 5 stars A promising start to a new highland series 15 Jan 2011
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Review courtesy of As the Pages Turn (SPOILER ALERT)

My Synopsis:
The Glen of Many Legends has housed 3 feuding clans for years. The Clan MacDonalds, Camerons, and Mackintoshes all lay claim to parts of this Glen and each feel they are the rightful sole owner of the Glen. Bad blood and many deaths all lay between the clans. More recent years the bloodshed is less and they have all learned to grudgingly tolerant each others presents but all are still sworn enemies. With a death of one woman this sort of truce is shatter. The woman in question is birth a MacDonald but was twice widowed. Her late husbands were Camerons and Mackintoshes. She was the hereditary heiress to the Glen. She did not leave a will so with her death each Clan has claimed her so that they can lay claim to all of the Glen. The King after receiving complaints from the Clans about one another resolves to stop the squabbling by issuing a fight to the death. Last man standing from one of the clans will be declared the rightful owner of Glen of Many Legends.

Catriona MacDonald is upset that the King has issued this decree and does not want her brother Alasadair or any of her fellow clansmen to die. Catriona knows that her clan and the Camerons and Mackintoshes will not back away from this decree because if they do not fight then the clans would be forced to move from their homes. Plus no honorable highlander ever backs away from a good fight. She loathes the lowlander and the nobles who have invaded her home to set up the place where the slaughter will take place. She is further annoyed by James Cameron the Chieftain of Clan Cameron. Several years back she had a run in with him that left her fascinated with him. She realizes she has compared every man to him and hasn't been able to forget his threat to kiss her if he ever found her trespassing on his land.

James Cameron has never been able to forget Catriona either. He has tried his best through the years to give her a wide berth when they've crossed paths. He is annoyed with himself for lusting after his enemies sister. After years of avoiding Catriona their paths cross again one early morning. Sensing danger nearby James is forced to intercede Catriona's trek across his land. Catriona has been walking across his land every morning since the lowlanders invaded their home to stare daggers and make it known that she does not welcome them here. Once these two paths cross again they each realize the attraction is strong between them and neither has been able to forget the other. With their clans forced to fight one another, the bad blood between their families and another unknown enemy, will this unlikely pairing be able to survive these obstacles?

My Thoughts:
This was the first book that I've ever read by this author and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books especially the upcoming ones in this series. The storyline was entertaining and the couple were sizzling. I love these enemy/lover story-lines so this was right up my alley. Catriona was headstrong, independent and spunky. She knows what she wants and she goes for it. Poor James Cameron didn't know what hit him once she set out to seduce him. As for James he's your typical highlander alpha male. I loved him. I can't resist a sexy highlander I tell you! I kept laughing every time he was trying to have serious discussion and such but his mind kept wandering back to Catriona. Dirty thoughts our boy James had about Catriona..hehe! The other characters in the book kept me glued to this book as well. I can't wait for other stories in this series. Kendrew Mackintosh the Chieftain of the Mackintosh clan is the one I'm most looking forward to next. Loved his craziness. I love that each Chieftain had sisters who have teamed up to make sure that peace reigns for the Clans that live in this glen. I only had two complaints about this book. I really could have done without the ghost story and all the mythical magical stuff. I thought too much time was spent on all the mythical stuff. It made the book drag a bit for me when those storyline came up in the book. My other complaint was the unknown bad guys. I didn't feel like they were necessary except to add a little thrill at the end there for James to come in and save the day.

Even with those two things I thoroughly enjoyed the book and will be buying the next book in this series. If you love reading stories set in Scotland with sexy highlanders and spunky heroines then you'll enjoy this book too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun start to another engaging romantic trilogy - intrigue, romance, action & friendship in the Highlands! 8 Jan 2011
By Gaby at Starting Fresh blog - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Sins of a Highland Devil lays the foundation for what will certainly be a fun romantic trilogy. We meet all three romantic leads and each character comes across distinct and clearly different from the others.

I admit that I particularly like James Cameron with his longstanding "feud" with the young and feisty Catriona MacDonald. Their shared highland pride and the unreasonable demands of the Stewart king make them natural allies, even if they allow the longstanding feud to stand in their way. Full of humor, intrigue, action and romance, Sins of a Highland Devil had me chuckling. It was a fun read - and very hard to put down!

5.0 out of 5 stars great opening Highlander medieval romance 8 Jan 2011
By Harriet Klausner - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
In 1396 King Robert Stewart of Scotland orders the lairds of clans MacDonald, Cameron and Mackintosh to end their bloody feud in the Glen of Many Legends with final combat. The clan of the last male survivor will own the Glen; those from the losing two clans will leave.

Sister to Laird Alasdair MacDonald, Catriona has struggled to ignore her attraction to Laird James Cameron. He feels like her as he knows he loves Catriona but cannot do anything about his feelings as their clans constantly feud. James meets with Alasdair and Laird Kendrew Mackintosh to discuss how to avoid a bloodbath and not lose the Glen to the monarch. However, none of the lairds are aware that their sisters have plotted a different gender outcome in the battle for who will be the last man standing in the Glen of Many Legends.

This is a great opening Highlander medieval romance with a strong lead couple and powerful support characters that will soon star in their own tales. The three pairs of aristocratic siblings are all fully developed with each loving their clan while also possessing a star-crossed love for a leader of one of the other clans. Sub-genre fans will be hooked into a one sitting read of Sins of a Highland Devil while anxiously awaiting the middle tale of what looks like will be one of the best medieval trilogies in years.
