Published in 2006 but set in the days before detective story writers had to take account of mobile phones, this is a good old fashioned detective mystery. Main man on the police team is DCI Charlie Woodend - his well-drawn team (consisting of Sergeant Monika Paniatowski, Sergeant Dix, Constable Colin Beresford and DI Bob Rutter) all jump on board when local figure and aspiring politician, Bradley Pine, is found murdered and horribly mutiliated in a lay-by.
The perpetrator is perhaps sign-posted in rather large letters half-way through the book but this is an appealling who-dunnit and worth a read.
