Praise for David Harrison (writing as TOM BALE):

4.0 out of 5 stars Are definitely visited upon the children 12 Jun. 2013

Excellent first novel - very readable; the words just flow off the page. Lots of action and well paced. My only criticism would be that some of the characters are a shade one dimensional, but this doesn't unduly detract from the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Holiday Reading. 17 July 2011

Switch the phone off, ignore the door bell, and immerse yourself in the birth of a brilliant new author. This book is well researched, and as a result very readable and believable. From the 1st Chapter until the last this is a page turning experience not to be missed.

I think that this author has a great eye for detail, and does his homework, before committing pen to paper. Writing about something that you have knowledge of is obviously the key to success. Keep them coming David. (Also writes under the name Tom Bale..every bit as good).

This is the first time I have read the authors notes and saw that it took him 25 years to get a book published. Amazong, this is a really good read. I enjoyed tne twists and turns of the plot. Reading his notes I can see where this all came from. A page turner, I am off to google his next book Skin and Bones written under the pseudonym name of Tom Bale

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome David Harrison! 6 Aug. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I honestly don't understand why David Harrison had such a hard time getting published under his own name for so long, yet managed it under his pseudonym Tom Bale. Whilst I have not yet read any of those, if they are better than this one then,WOW!

I think this book is amazing; right up there with Peter James at his best!

The plot is powerful and compelling and the characters colourful and intriguing. I have to admit that I was worried at the beginning that there were perhaps too many for me to remember, but David Harrison was the master at slotting them seamlessly into the story early on and I had no problem at all. There is never a dull moment. No need to skip pages in an effort to hurry it along as it has all the impetus required to keep you absorbed from beginning to end.

On a personal level I almost felt that I was part of the story because apart from Cromer, all of the locations used are places of significance in my life, past and present. Even Croydon!

I am confident in recommending this book and can't wait to read something else that he has written.

Not at all bad. I wasn't sure how interesting an insurance investigator would be but Nick Randall is more than a half decent character.

There are some original plot twists. Particularly the concept of Nick's father, now dead, having been a celebrity comedian. A series of reveals based around Nick's father opens up the story to allow a famous biographer and potential murderer to move in and play their part. Harrison manages this complicated plot well and keeps his writing tight as we follow Nick through his current insurance investigation then travel back to a murky incident in his father's past. Just as we get there we're spun round and bought back to the present and the murder of Nick's 'ex' wife.

Are all of the threads linked in some way? Is there potential for more? I'm not telling you - read the book!

I'm impressed with how well the various storylines are tied up, there are very few loose ends, and though the ending isn't perhaps as dynamic as I'd have liked it's certainly satisfying.

Happy to recommend this easy, quick to read thriller.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Really Good Read 28 Jun. 2013
By Aurora TOP 500 REVIEWER

I enjoyed this book very much. Although the first couple of chapters started out slowly, setting out the foundation of the story, the pace soon increased and didn't let up. The characterisation was good, although I wasn't convinced by Nick beginning a new relationship so soon after the murder of his wife. I was taken by surprise by the revelation of who one of the central characters really was. I probably should have seen it for myself but somehow I missed it. I don't think that is a weakness in the writing, I suspect that either I was being blind or we were not supposed to realise it until the author was ready to reveal it.
It could be said that normally the police would not involve the public in their operations but in this case the public, in the form of Nick, was one step ahead of the police and coming up with the answers to the puzzles before they did.

All in all this is a really good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sins of the author? 26 Jun. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The premise of this book isn't unlike many others. There's a central good character who is a little flawed around the edges and there's a baddie who, in this instance has no redeeming features. There are also of course other characters and one of this book's strong points is the depth of those supporting characters.

Whilst the storyline in it's most basic form is nothing new, the meat that's put on the bones is I suspect unique. No ex-policeman chasing his nemeses here. However, to get the picture I, for one won't elaborate and you'll have to read to find out. You'll be pleased to learn that this is no onerous task though. The story barrels along at just the right pace, with an ending that keeps you guessing and after that, dare I say, wanting more.

At the price, indeed at many times the price, this is top entertainment.
