This review is from: Sinicization Beyond the Great Wall: China's Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region (Paperback)
Recent years China has accelerated the speed of assimilation, sinicization process in Xinjiang Uighur Automous Regin (XUAR). Since 11/9 China is using fight against terrorism as excuse to suppress its own muslim population, Uighurs. Today, world community has realized that XUAR can not be left alone. There are more and more people paying attention to the various developments in the region. At such an important time Anwar Rahman published his book on Chinese sinicization policy in the region.
This is the very first English book written by a native Uighur grew up in East Turkistan. Being an insider he experienced and witnessed a lot of changes in the region. The author used a lots of first hand materials, which includes unpublished materials as well, to shed a light on the issues in Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of People’s Republic of China. In his book he gave enough room for every aspect of the sinicization policy through so-called Western Development Program (WDP) and modernization, including environmental, cultural, educational, linguistic ….. issues.
I am sure this book will be a first hand reference for the researchers on East Turkistan.
