Lotte Lenya (1898 – 1981) was an Austrian singer, diseuse, and actress. In the German-speaking and classical music world she is best remembered for her performances of the songs of her husband, Kurt Weill.
In English-language film she is remembered for her Academy Award-nominated role in The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone (1961) and as the sadistic and vengeful Rosa Klebb in the James Bond movie From Russia with Love (1963).
The Michael Kunze play, Lenya, is about Brecht’s favorite singer, Lotte Lenya.
In 2007, the musical LoveMusik, based on Lenya's relationship with Weill, opened on Broadway. Lenya was portrayed by Donna Murphy.
This new 3 CD collection offers the opportunity to own 3 classic Lotte Lenya albums that have not been brought together in one set before and at a very very affordable price.
As I enjoy the music of Kurt Weill the albums including his works are my favourites. Lotte Lenya has an instantly recognisable European voice and as an interpreter of her husbands (Kurt Weill) work she is clearly an expert artiste. The sound transfers are excellent. The set is most attractively packaged with five images amidst a blue and black colour scheme. The liner notes are by Helen Akitt.
