4.0 out of 5 stars A fine blues singer 11 April 2002
Format:Audio CD
This is an odd CD in that it is composed with the two opposite ends of Brother John's style. Firstly he is accompanied by Count Basie's rhythm section plus Ruby Braff a very sophisticated offering then he is accompanied by Sonny Terry and Johnny Johns in a fairly raw bluesy instrumentation. These two very different approaches do not come in two different sections but are intermingled.
Whether you feel this is an appropriate way to present such a fine blues singer is a personal choice. Its good listening but the changes certainly continue to throw me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brother John Sellers 22 Sep 2009
Format:Audio CD
This is a super CD from one of the forgotten names of the 50's and 60's. A fine blues and gospel singer in the style of Josh White (ie, sophisticated) Sellers was not a guitarist but had an excellent voice, He was a contemporary of Big Bill Broonzy
