This review is from: Singles in the Sixties (Audio CD)
Great cd! Arrived on the morning my husband I were travelling to Llandudno to see the Manfreds! Love all the tracks on this, felt very nostalgic listening to them on the way back from seeing them; excellent show by the way. Any fan of the sixties will love this!

Made in HOL in 2000, Serial# BX-515-2, Playing Time 59:44Beware! This CD comes in 2 alternate covers, originally 1997, re-issued in 2000: one is labeled "Singles In The Sixties", while the other is labeled "The Singles", but both contain the same track selection (not to be confused with another compilation called "Best Of The 60's"). This chronological compilation lifts the 'A'-sides only of 22 singles from the HMV and FONTANA record labels, and contains NO b-sides. There's already a whole lot of compilations from that era, so depending on what you're looking for (complete singles or a-sides only), you'll have to decide which item to purchase. On the plus side, the tracks are presented chronologically, which makes the "evolution" of the group more obvious; on the negative side, the singles aren't complete because the b-sides are absent, and some(11) of the mixes are in mono even though stereo mixes also exist. If you're a true completist, it's also important to note that some singles from that period have been skipped (e.g. "My Little Red Book", "She Needs Company" to name a couple), even though there is room for those few on the CD: they probably couldn't obtain the rights... Overall, a fair disc, but there are, in my opinion, better ones out there: check out "The Ascent Of Mann", a 2-disc compilation of the 1966 to 1969 era. |
