Product Description

Product Description

Mike Cunningham has been married to his beloved
Jacqueline for 42 years. He is the father of three adult kids and two dynamite grandsons. A writer for over twenty years, with a drawerfull of rejection letters to prove it, he has always believed that the writing ain’t the difficult bit; the hard part is finally seeing your name in print.

The inventions of an audio technology genius
tape-record the memories and philosophies of Adolf
Hitler. The taped voice, and all the signals from this
special tape go straight into the subconscious memory
and mind of a young street battler named Charlie
Watson, active in Right-wing politics and activities, these
opinions being inherited from his late father.
Charlie changes his approach to politics, and
becomes a mesmerising speaker, who stands for
Parliament, and scores an astounding victory.
After a ‘Morals’ scandal and a General Election,
Charlie’s party comes out with nine seats, and form a
coalition with the Tories.
The story tells of Charlie’s passage from a streetfighter
to the very bases of Power in Britain today,
encompassing the ‘Westminster expenses’ scandal, a
British version of 9/11, and his Party’s actions in Europe.
One theme behind ‘Single to Westminster, via
Berlin’ is the battle against the encroaching powers of the
European Union, as well as the power of the State against
the individual.

From the Author

I wrote this novel over a five-year period, so was able to bring in real-life situations such as the Westminster expenses scandal. I have also 'invented' the tape recorder some twenty years before it became fact, but that is the license given to creative minds.

4.0 out of 5 stars True , no but possible 26 Oct 2011

Being my politics are left of Lenin the beginning of this novel had me doubting.
However the story line carried me over this.
While there is a marked interweaving between the Germany of the post Weimar period, the similarities to the Fascists then are slight.
If that is a necessary price for the story line it's well to remember this is fiction.

Then the frightening bit. Given the state of party politics in the U.K is this feasible now?

A good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sir Charlie 19 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback
My politics are of the 'old' labour before Militant, before Wilson. The core and true principles of socialism I suppose. The book was most entertaining and smacks of realism in the modern day, particularly how the British public would, in theory, go for Charlie's uncouth though tentatively believable policies. But alas, apathy and political correctiveness always rears their ugly head. The fascism angle did not make me uncomfortable at all, quite enlightening really. Didn't particularly like the anti-Labour feel in this book as radicalism has been at the heart of old Labour I feel. Though the Tories and Lib Dem's are remarkably a true depiction. I liked the emphasis on deceit and business first, the British populace somewhere far down the list. Maybe Ed Miliband ought to investigate the writings of Mike Cunningham.......even take him on as an advisor! Excellent read, Keep them coming Mike. You never know, someone in the ivory towers may take note.
