Book Description

Meadow View is just another house to sell for young estate agent, Hal Symonds, a young man determined to make his way in life at any cost. But he quickly realises there’s more to this seemingly empty house than meets the eye.

Why does he keep dreaming about Meadow View in the past, seeing it through the eyes of a man who lived sixty years earlier? And why does the sight of his new girlfriend’s grandmother, Sylvia, whom he has never met before, excite such resentment in Hal; why do his hands keep itching to close around her throat?

Hal fears that he is losing his mind. And the manipulative games of Erica, his obsessive ex-girlfriend, merely add to his confusion as his carefully constructed world starts to unravel. Hal looks for scapegoats in everyone around him, until forced to realise that he is set on a course of self destruction from which he can see no way out …

More About the Author

Mark Jones was born in Cornwall, UK, in 1977 and has been writing fiction since his teenage years.

So much for the bald facts. I've always loved writing, from the short, melancholy tales and "epic" poems of my youth to the full-length novels I'm working on now. Either way, there's something wonderful about setting characters along a path and waiting for the point when they become so real that they actually tell the story all by themselves. That was definitely the case with my first novel, "Single Minded", and will, I'm sure, happen as I progress with my next work of fiction, "The Beating of Tiny Wings".

I'm fascinated by families and family history - and the secrets that all families hide. These lie at the heart of my work and I hope my traditional tales occupy you for many contented hours.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read!! 2 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I greatly enjoyed this book - I felt the tone, language and style were spot on - and it was really interesting to see life from the male perspective! I am not aware of many books that explore the male view of relationships and life to this kind of depth, which I think makes this a very interesting read, particularly for us girlies! Lots of intriguing angles and really believable characters and I enjoyed the 'look back' storyline alongside the current.... It also made me wonder about the impact of the spirits and character of those who have lived / been in houses we then live in... do we all leave a little bit of our soul in the places we have been?? Would recommend this to you - its a good read and a good experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something different 16 May 2012
By Lilian
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have just finished Single Minded and have to say I found it very interesting:-) There's mystery, romance, secrets and lies, violence (not too much) foul language (far too much for me) fear and insecurity....all wrapped up in a good story :-)
I enjoyed the diversions into a past life and how that made me want to read on....sometimes into the wee small hours :-)
Well written, by which I mean the grammer is good, no spelling mistakes that I could see, and punctuation perfect :-)
I think this story should have a sequel, so we can discover what happened to Hal and Caro.....did they marry, did Caro buy the house etc.,
If you want a 'different' storyline then I'd say read this book :-) I would have given 5 stars but for the foul language :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Compelling story 24 Jun. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A very compelling story that made me want to read this to conclusion. Worth reading, particularly if you have experience of estate agents, and even if you don't! Some nicely done plot twists, and it all hung together. I was not sure that I sympathised much with the characters, which was maybe deliberate on the part of the author, all a bit self-seeking and introspective. The language of the main character was stilted and old fashioned at times, and did not fit with the youth of the main character - I can only imagine this was deliberate/ingenious on the part of the author, deliberately indicating the the main character was being inhabited/taken over by the ghost .....

5.0 out of 5 stars Sit down, feet up and read! 5 Nov. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
An intriguing journey that has not only twists and turns but emotional depth. How the seemingly variant paths of time and character slip together with ease. A read that will open the window to a past that wasn't ready to desist!

I really enjoyed Single Minded, great story with love, loss and mystery, (not a usual combination) good characters. A page turner.
