With the advent of SBA (Single Best Answer) questions in the Final FRCA, it was only a matter of time before the practice books were published, however at the time of publication only one exam had been set & the technique was still finding its feet in great hall of Anaesthesia exams. The SBA technique has been used for many years in MRCP and other specialities so hopefully trainees should be familiar with the concept of picking one answer out of 5 rather than answering true or false to all stems.
This little gem well deserves its 4 stars, the questions are of a level consistent with the examples set out by the RCoA and it is well set out in the format of 6 papers each of 30 questions (as is the exam); with a clinical scenario/statement followed by 5 options. In the majority, the questions are clearly written, with only a few ambiguous stems (but there are a few, hence it drops a star!). The answers provided are clear & concise with supporting notes & several up to date references for further clarification.
There are other SBA books on the market aimed at Anaesthetic trainees, but I personally have found them not to be as useful as this one due to the complexity & ambiguity of the questions.
This book should become a firm friend to any trainee studying for the Final FRCA!
