Review

"* "Michael Morpurgo has... fused memory with imagination - in the wonderful stories of Singing for Mrs Pettigrew, a collection as convincing, heartfelt and unforgettable as the rest of the many books that he has published in the past four decades." The Irish Times * "Here is a Laureate with the imaginative force to wrest children from the numbness of a dreary education. It is Morpurgo's time to loom large in the lives of others." The Guardian"

Beautiful book 28 Nov 2006
Format:Hardcover
My children aged 10 and 9 are already Morpurgo fans and I bought this book for them after reading an interview article in The Irish Times. As they were busy with other books I read it. I was sorry when it came to an end. It is a treasure of a book, interweaving autobiographical writing with beautifully written stories. My 9-year-old is already an avid reader and a very enthusiastic writer and I hope this will mean a lot to her. Mr Morpurgo does not write down to children. Highly recommended.

This book changed my 9 year-old sons attitude to reading. Usually more into factual books, he loved the mix of mini-stories and real life accounts. He says the book made him have great dreams as he could picture himself in so many of the stories, particularly the excerpt of 'I believe in Unicorns'. Now he is crazy about all Morpurgo's books. If your child is reluctant to read, these short chapters are a great way to start an interest in the fabulous tales Morpurgo creates.

Fantastic 22 Aug 2007
Format:Hardcover
This is a wonderful book. We bought it recently after hearing Michael Morpurgo talk in England to 600 adults and children and keep each and every one rivetted for half an hour, even the five year olds.
Both our 14 year old son and 8 year old daughter adored it. Our son says he loved the way it explains how you turn an idea into a story and illustrates examples with real and autobiographical tales. It's rare that a book appeals as much to an eight year old, a fourteen year old and adults.
They also loved many of his other books, and our daughter has recently read Butterfly Lion, Wreck of the Zanzibar and Cool and loved them too.
