Product Description

Reissued with a stunning new package, Caro Ramsay's Anderson & Costello thrillers have been widely recognised as one of the most significant new series in the genre in recent years and Ramsay's utterly unique investigators are ready to become the nation's favourite Scottish cop duo. Singing to the Dead is the second novel in this gripping series.

'Brilliant in twisting the tension tauter with each page' Guardian

Bitter betrayal. Sweet revenge.

Two seven-year-old boys have been abducted from the streets of Glasgow. Both had already endured years of neglect and betrayal - but for Detective Inspector Colin Anderson the case is especially disturbing, because the boys look so much like his own son Peter...

Then, with police resources stretched to breaking point, a simple house fire turns into a full-scale murder hunt. An invisible killer is picking off victims at random and, if DS Costello's hunch is correct, committing an ingenious deception.

As his squad struggles to work both cases, DI Anderson learns that deception and betrayal come in many guises. For while the boys' abductor is still out there no child is safe - as young Peter Anderson is about to find out...

Singing to the Dead is a stunning masterpiece of Scottish crime fiction that will stay with you long after the last page is turned.

'Ramsay handles her characters with aplomb, the dialogue crackles and the search for the killer has surprising twists and turns' Observer

'Many shivers in store for readers, followed by a shattering climax' The Times

Caro Ramsay was born in Glasgow and now lives in a village on the West Coast of Scotland. This is her second novel, following the critically acclaimed Absolution. Dark Water is the third Anderson and Costello thriller. The fourth, The Blood of Crows, publishes this summer.

This is the first book I have read by Caro Ramsey. I am definitely buying Absolution now, because I loved Singing to the Dead. I read a lot of crime and this book had me hooked from the first chapter onwards. I finished it in 2 days. As a tip, I think it would be better to read Absolution first, as there are references to characters from the first book.
Definitely worth reading.

Why did we have to wait two years for this? Is this author not contracted to one a year 'coz if not, she should be!
I got this, read it (it kept me up!) in eight hours flat.
I had enjoyed 'absolution', the first novel in the series. I was interested to see how Ramsey would pick up the threads and allow the team to continue in the wake of the end of book one. I was a bit worried, major character shift needed, how would the other characters cope if they had to become major players? Answer, brilliantly, they shine and sparkle off the page and Ramsey is a dab hand at authentic dialogue. The plotting in this book is deft but totally workable - yet the end - well I just didn't see it coming - and of course I should have.
Anderson is quietly respectful until the case of the abucted children comes a little too close to home for him and the author beguiles the reader in the same way the 'criminal' beguiles the police. Costello, the female cop, is the star of the book, the supporting cast are all well drawn and believable.
I'm going back now to read the first one again and I'm glad to see there is a third one coming next year.

I enjoyed Absolution, but Caro Ramsay has really excelled herself with this sequel. Costello and Anderson very neatly stepped up to the plate to replace the rather unlikeable Alan McAlpine in the first book. Both are strong characters, passionate about their work. We also met a few new characters, most notably the irritating DS Kate Lewis who is the type of person women will love to hate.

I found myself immersed in the book from start to finish and I read it over a weekend. There are several exciting and original sub plots running simultaneously and Caro Ramsey weaves these very skillfully. All the characters, police, criminals and red herrings are multi-dimensional and stirred up a variety of emotions in me as I was reading about them. I am really looking forward to her next book. She is a very exciting writer.

I really enjoyed Absolution, couldn't put it down until I found out if my conclusions were correct. I can't wait to complete Singing for the Dead.
