CUFC, footy the universe and everything - It's all there, 23 Sep 2000
This review is from: Singin' the Blues: A Homage to Carlisle United (Paperback)
It will be a great shame if this book doesn't make it outside Cumbria. It is a great football book certainly, written by a true lover of his club, but it is also an accomplished view on the World. Neil Nixon seemlessly merges the undulating fortunes of an unfashionable club, his own life, and the life of the world around us. Esoteric in parts - but reaching out enough to appeal to any lover of football - or life. And a pageturner to boot.

The definitive guide to the emotions of a Football fan, 20 Sep 2000

This review is from: Singin' the Blues: A Homage to Carlisle United (Paperback)
Books about football, and in particular carlisle united tend to be books with a particular audience. This book just about breaks that theory. The book is a journey through the life of a Carlisle United fan,but is about much more than football.
The book made me laugh out loud, and wish for days gone by. But it also captures the dispair felp by someone following a club so often in trouble, but breifly reaching the heights of success.
For some parts of the book, football takes a back seat, as the author tells his tales of growing up in deprived West Cumbria.
A recomended read, not only for Carlisle fans, but anyone who's grown up supporting a lower league team, or living in a rural town.
