magnificent,
By Kyle R J Richardson (Ellel, Lancaster United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sing Ye Heavens (Audio CD)
The Cambridge Singers are once again on amazing form, the singing is as always pure and clear. The range of Hymn music presented is very good and some of Rutters arrangements are amazing. The soaring soprano descants are some of the best i have ever heard(especially the end of track of 6).The acoustics of st Albans offer generous support and make this on the whole a magnificent recording, a must for any fan of Rutter and the Cambridge Singers.

A Wonderful Collection of Hymns Catering For All Tastes,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sing Ye Heavens (Audio CD)
This wonderful collection of Church music caters for all tastes, be they High Church Anglicans or Evangelicals of all denominations. The best of the British and Irish Hymns are presented here, with typical Rutter arrangements, modern while not losing anything of their traditional quality.Sadly, the version of the Irish Hymn "All Things Bright and Beautiful" is not the popular modern one, synonymous with John Rutter. This disappointed me so be warned! Other than that, I am delighted I purchased this CD and would recommend it to all lovers of Church and Christian music.

Superlative singing,

Perhaps the only way I can truly mention the glory of this CD is that I crashed a car whilst singing along to it - descant on full blast.
The singing is superb, well balanced from the brass, organ, choir & descant sops editions through to the sopranos and harp editions. John Scott masters the organ of St Alban the Martyr at Holborn with ease, the brass ensemble play with finesse and great technique without sounding slavish to every detail, and the choir - well - just listen to O God our help, Lo! He comes, or any other track for that matter. Excellent diction, perfect intonation, and importantly for hymn singing - excellent choice of tempi. The editions are now available from Collegium Music, Rutter's own publishing house. Worth every penny.
