Another in a series of re-releases from Reprise highlighting Mr Sinatra's rarer recordings, this album issued during the year of his 50th birthday was rather drowned out by masterpieces such as 'September of my Years'and 'A Man and His Music'. However any Sinatra release requires a good listen and this one is no exception. It consists of several single releases from 1964/65 featuring choirs and heavy backbeats ('Tell Her [You Love Her Each Day], 'Any Time At All', 'Somewhere in Your Heart'et al)in an attempt to emulate Dean Martin's huge commercial successes for Sinatra's Reprise label. These are not as good and you can sense Frank tossing them off with the minimum of fuss and effort. Ernie Freeman and Jimmy Bowen (Dean Martin regulars)do their best but these sing-a-longs,though entertaining, are not in all honesty prime Sinatra. However the remainder of the album is. Culled from various contemporaneous releases such as the wonderful Reprise Rep. Theatre and the 'Robin and the Seven Hoods' movie, Frank is back in his element with top swingers 'My Kind of Town', 'You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me' and the top class 'Luck Be a Lady'. There are also excellent versions of the ballads 'When I'm Not Near the Girl I Love' and 'I've Never Been in Love Before'. Finally, there is the rare item 'I Like to Lead When I Dance' from the 'Robin...' movie which gets a great performance. A mixed bag then, but at this price well worth owning.
