Brilliant!, but what happened to the best episode?,
This review is from: The Simpsons: Greatest Hits [DVD] [1990] (DVD)
This DVD edition of 'The Simpsons- Greatest Hits', as part of 'The Simpsons Classics'range, contains four episodes that had some effect on The Simpsons history. Firstly, 'SIMPSONS ROASTING ON AN OPEN FIRE' was the first ever full length episode of the show. Secondly, 'SWEET SEYMOUR SKINNER'S BAADASSSSS SONG' was the landmark 100th episode. 'BART GETS AN F' had the highest U.S rating of an episode, and in 'LISA'S FIRST WORD', Maggie speaks for the first time! These are all truly 'great hits', and feature the guest voices of Marcia Wallace and Elizabeth Taylor(Maggie). There is only one problem with this DVD which I am suprised about..., the fact that 20th Century Fox left out the brilliant milestone 200th episode, 'TRASH OF THE TITANS', which appears on the great VHS edition of 'The Simpsons- Greatest Hits'. This episode sees Homer decide he's fed up with a world run by snooty garbagemen, and so becomes 'The Garbageman', taking care of Springfield's trash problems personally along with his fellow expensive suit wearing garbagemen. The episode contains the musical number, ' The Garbageman', a spoof of 'The Candyman', and also features the guest voices of Steve Martin and U2(U2 contribute to 'The Garbageman'). The episode also contains an alternate ending that was to rude for TV, featuring U2 and Monty Burns. This is the only case in which I believe the VHS tape is better value than the DVD, but if you are a collector of 'The Simpsons Classics',then this is great value purely because of the brilliance of the four episodes included.

Only 4 episodes?,
This review is from: The Simpsons: Greatest Hits [DVD] [1990] (DVD)
4 episodes? I don't think that represents very good value for money. Particularly when "Roasting On an Open Fire" and "Bart Gets an F" are already available on the Season 1 collection. Also, I don't think these are the greatest hits anyway. What about "Flaming Moe" for a start??? Buy the Season 1 & 2 DVDs, then wait for the Season 3 DVD to come out and buy that too. Then you'll have the Simpsons "Greatest Hits".
