The sound quality is fairly good even on the oldest recordings and mostly excellent on the later tracks.
True. This compilation may not be die-hard Modern Jazz, but is a nice stepping stone toward the Jazz genre. I do a Jazz show on Hospital Radio Chelmsford every week. Most of the tracks on here would be very at home on my show.
As well as the usual indispensibles like Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Tony Bennett and Peggy Lee, you also have less well known, less played, but equally great artistes like Helen Forrest, Dick Haymes, Ethel Merman, Lena Horne and Billie Holiday.
Even better! The liner notes contain some very good and interesting information about the various tracks.
I was in Cornwall having some delicious fish and chips. In that restaurant, they were playing this music there. So I copied down the first tracks and last tracks and then searched on Amazon. The result, I was able to order this album from where I was staying. Oh, the joys of holidays homes with wi-fi!
In my oprion, each CD is worth the price paid for all 4 CDs you get in this boxed set. This must be a bargain and would not only please Jazz fans but also it would delight many other music fans who may not be that Jazz aware.
