I've been a Christian for 28 years and this is the best book I have ever read about what my faith really means, lived in the world. I really can't recommend it highly enough. Rohr writes eloquently and with wisdom and humility, from a life clearly lived open to learning and to letting go.
If you want dogma and rules, don't bother reading this. If you are ready to go deeper and want to start to embrace contemplation, silence and yourself as a whole person, then you will find help and clarity here. If Jesus doesn't make sense to you without an understanding of paradox, community and poverty, if you are ready to admit the Body of Christ has largely ignored the Sermon on the Mount, then this is a wonderful travelling companion to begin or indeed continue your spiritual and political journey.
If nothing else, it is tremendously challenging and thought provoking to our Western complacency and inflexibility, but importantly without dismissing our traditions and hard won lessons.
If we were all able to take on board the truths in this book, the church would be a very different (and in my opinion more Christ-like) body.
