Product Description

The success of the 5/3/1 Method has been nothing short of extraordinary. For the 3 years, the response towards this simple but brutally effective training system has been overwhelming. This is because it works. And works for just about anyone willing to put in the discipline and work that getting stronger requires

Elite level lifters to absolute beginners have all used the 5/3/1 Method; the basic tenets of strength training have and will never change. Big exercises, constant progress, and personal records will never go out of style.

High school and college coaches are now using the 5/3/1 with their athletes with amazing success; it is easy to track, implement and will inspire any team to push for themselves to the limit.

The 5/3/1 Method is truly for anyone that is looking to get stronger. This is not a fancy training program that requires special equipment or Master's degree - all is required is your dedication to moving more weight than you had ever dreamed.

The 5/3/1 2nd Edition features new chapters on programming assistance training for all the big assistance lifts. No more questions on what weights to do and what exercises to choose from. Full body training to increase your squatting and overall strength. Simple and effective ways to eat for size and strength are revealed. Jim also covers how to combine 5/3/1 and Crossfit-style conditioning for maximum benefits and recovery. Finally, rest/pause training for assistance work for building size and strength is programmed for maximum benefit.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliantly simple guide to safe strength 29 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love Jim's program because it checks all these boxes and more.

1. Safety first - the best program in the world that results in 6 months injury rehab is no good. Younger guys can get away with crazy programs. Not for me the hour-long squat mega sets.
2. Efficiency - I'm not interested in living in the gym. Get in, do the job and get out.
3. Effectiveness - I still want to get bigger, stronger and fitter.
4. Simplicity - easy to understand, intuitive and logical.
5. Flexible - different folk have different priorities and this system accommodates a wide variety of goals, including some crazy stuff that violates 1. above (accompanied by a warning).

All in all, a brilliant work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not for total beginners. 27 Nov 2013
By Maciej
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The book is a compilation of anecdotal evidence, which in itself is not a bad thing, considering author's background. Unfortunately, if it's your first book about strength training, you may struggle with proper lift technique. The program is great and effective.

As I am now, I would recommend this book as a programming one and Starting Strength as a source of knowledge about lifts.

5.0 out of 5 stars timeless 13 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Jim Wendler is right on the money with this offering. You won't find any single leg reverse Hungarian bosu ball lunges in this book. What you will find is very effective programming of the basic exercises that built all the strong men on the planet. You will shake your head at the flimsy guy doing cable crossovers and kickbacks even though you told him bench press is the way to go. He will look in awe as you bench twice his 1RM for reps. Back to the book! The bit about setting up an excel spreadsheet was useful, so was the simple but effective info on diet. Great book, thanks Jim.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tortoise and the Hare 19 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a well-written book and highly accessible text for all lifters looking to make continuous improvement over the longer term. I wish I'd had access to it when I was competing although in hindsight most periodised powerlifting routines I've had success with are similar to this "4 steps forward, 3 steps back" approach. The best things about the concepts discussed in this book for me are the celebration of patience, simplicity and flexibility rather than the usual marketing "30 days to abs" nonsense.

In summary "get this book now".

Good read quite aside from the training content. Buy it and lift big weights, off the floor and over your head
