Product Description

Review

"Aleksandr Orlov is the nation's favourite meerkat and hopes to re-marble the family mansion with this fully illustrated autobiography. Detailing the escape of his ancestors from the Kalaharia and sharing anecdotes of fame generated from his Compare the meerkat TV adverts, his writing is fun and absorbing." (Daily Express)

"A Simples Life is funny, sweet and clever. This fictional 'autobiography' is a cheering immigrant adventure with illustration, puns and a hilariously skilful mangling of the English language." (Daily Mirror)

"the best Christmas book by a made up author... laugh-out-loud" (Independent on Sunday)

Book Description

The hilarious autobiography of the nation's favourite meerkat

Having read all of the negative reviews of this book I couldn't help but think that those people were taking this book far too seriously. Seeing how much of a popular icon Aleksandr Orlov was, it was only natural for his creators to look for ways to branch out and cash in on any other possible success they could harbour, wouldn't any smart businessman?
Point aside, this book is very entertaining. It's written in the grammatical style of Aleksandr (it'll have you speaking along with it in your head to his accent, trust me!) and peppered with humour of all kinds, at least one of which is bound to suit your taste. As well as this the book also features images that won't fail to make you laugh as well, so overall there's a wide variety of things in the book to keep you reading if they don't keep you laughing as well.
My personal experience with this book was once of complete enjoyment, my friends all loved it as well when I showed them it, and I'd highly recommend others to buy it because, for the price it is, it's fantastic value.

I am a huge fan of the adverts and so I just had to get this book as an early Christmas present for myself. I know I have now read it, but I still haven't touched the chocolate that I also got for myself, which will remain unopened until Christmas Day.

Aleksandr Orlov in his inimitable style takes us back in time to his ancestors in the Kalahari Desert and why they had to leave; their journey to Russia, their war against Mongis Khan and his Mongoose Horde, and on to starting up the comparethemeerkat company. Aleksandr's family have definitely been through bad times as well as the good, and the start of the company initially semed like it would flop.

Aleksandr then tells us about his life, and you soon see why he is the world's most loved Russian oligarch. A tale of love, heroism and entrepeneurialship there is much here to make you laugh and weep. A story of our times, Aleksandr shows how to make it in today's world. What will be next for him? I have heard rumours that he will be taking over the hit show 'The Apprentice'. This book is full of illustrations, mainly photos, but also the ground plans of his mansion.

This book is bound to be appearing in many a persons Christmas stocking this year so make sure that people know you want it, or buy it now.

It is lovely to read something that makes you laugh out loud (but not on public transport - ask me how I know). A very cleverly written book and the illustrations are great. A treat for all fans of Aleksander and Sergei.

Absolutely fab book at a brilliant price. I was impressed by the quality of the book and the various pictures and musings throughout Aleksandr's story. If you like the adverts, you will love it. All the amusing characteristics of the adverts in literary form.

Will be an enormous hit this Xmas for all ages and it deserves to be - nothing rude or violent or padded out with rubbish. I'm very glad I bought 2 copies - one for my parents and one for me - as I couldn't have shared !

I agree with a previous reviewer that it should get a Booker prize !!! Go Aleksandr (& Sergei of course)!!

It was arriving yesterday and so I keep whole evenings for reading. An absolutely riveting readings.
From the early beginnings of his ancestors in the Kalahari to a tour of his mansion, Aleksandr takes us on a rollercoaster ride through his family and life history.
Complete with beautiful historical images this book is a must read for everyone.
Should you buy this book? The answer is simples. Of course you should.
I hope and expect it to be on the best sellers list for long, long times.

"After many week, they began to think something was probables wrong"....

Tongue firmly in meerkat cheek, this is a lovingly constructed 127 page homage to the life and times of the world's most famous meerkat.

It's filled with familiar and new images of Aleks' life, written in his mangled mix of Hello-magazine speak and genuine Russian meerkat [sic].

It's as fresh as a just-hatched grub and if it doesn't make you, your kids and your family smile, you've probably had a humour transplant, or you harbour muskrat tendencies. Warning: (page 58): "...never play baccarat with a muskrat."

Move over Clarkson, Gok Wan, Blair. Frankly, Aleksandr has just pipped you at the post for the Booker next year. Even the mighty Jamie Oliver is going to have to have bow down before the recipe for millipede goulash.

I reckon it deserves to sell more copies than the X-Factor winner.

Arrived today and is brilliant. If you enjoyed the adverts, and the dodgy English, then this is for you. Buy, laugh and enjoy. Adults and children, one and all.
