Absolutely Brilliant,
By M. Dowden (London, UK) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 50 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: A Simples Life: The Life and Times of Aleksandr Orlov (Includes Poster) (Hardcover)
I am a huge fan of the adverts and so I just had to get this book as an early Christmas present for myself. I know I have now read it, but I still haven't touched the chocolate that I also got for myself, which will remain unopened until Christmas Day.Aleksandr Orlov in his inimitable style takes us back in time to his ancestors in the Kalahari Desert and why they had to leave; their journey to Russia, their war against Mongis Khan and his Mongoose Horde, and on to starting up the comparethemeerkat company. Aleksandr's family have definitely been through bad times as well as the good, and the start of the company initially semed like it would flop. Aleksandr then tells us about his life, and you soon see why he is the world's most loved Russian oligarch. A tale of love, heroism and entrepeneurialship there is much here to make you laugh and weep. A story of our times, Aleksandr shows how to make it in today's world. What will be next for him? I have heard rumours that he will be taking over the hit show 'The Apprentice'. This book is full of illustrations, mainly photos, but also the ground plans of his mansion. This book is bound to be appearing in many a persons Christmas stocking this year so make sure that people know you want it, or buy it now.

Simples - It's a fun read!,
By
This review is from: A Simples Life: The Life and Times of Aleksandr Orlov (Hardcover)
Having read all of the negative reviews of this book I couldn't help but think that those people were taking this book far too seriously. Seeing how much of a popular icon Aleksandr Orlov was, it was only natural for his creators to look for ways to branch out and cash in on any other possible success they could harbour, wouldn't any smart businessman?Point aside, this book is very entertaining. It's written in the grammatical style of Aleksandr (it'll have you speaking along with it in your head to his accent, trust me!) and peppered with humour of all kinds, at least one of which is bound to suit your taste. As well as this the book also features images that won't fail to make you laugh as well, so overall there's a wide variety of things in the book to keep you reading if they don't keep you laughing as well. My personal experience with this book was once of complete enjoyment, my friends all loved it as well when I showed them it, and I'd highly recommend others to buy it because, for the price it is, it's fantastic value.

Not for reading on public transport!,
By teribus (Scotland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Simples Life: The Life and Times of Aleksandr Orlov (Hardcover)
It is lovely to read something that makes you laugh out loud (but not on public transport - ask me how I know). A very cleverly written book and the illustrations are great. A treat for all fans of Aleksander and Sergei.
