The Oxford Basics series contains all the essentials for the newly qualified teacher and elementary learners. The books are organised into 30 useful topic areas eg. numbers, food and drink, describing people. Each book has the same format with units clearly laid out in the form of an actual lesson plan giving ideas for activities, checking comprehension, pronunciation points and follow-up activities. They have easy to copy pictures and a variety of exercises for each unit.
Having bought all five books in the series they did at first seem to repeat material, however because each book focuses on a different skill they complement each other. For less than the average cost of a single teaching book I'd recommend the complete series.

I was looking for some novel new ideas of how to introduce speaking into the classroom at elementary level unfortunately all of the tips and activities in the book were already employed by me in class so I didn't get any additional help at all..

I purchased this book in England a few weeks ago before moving to China to teach English for a couple of months. Haven't yet used any of the activities but hope to do so once teaching gets underway. There are some useful exercises in the book and, as the book says, they are SIMPLE and designed for elementary level. Should prove to be a helpful book for new teachers.

Easy speaking activities for ESOL teachers 23 Oct 2012

This series of books contains a number of very basic activities for ESOL teachers. I purchased many in the series to use when I was teaching overseas. They are thin and easy to pack. The activities don't require complicated materials nor are they labor-intensive; just simple, like the title says. You can't plan your lessons around it, but rather I recommend using them to supplement what you are teaching. It is also good when you are stuck and need an activity. I think of it as part of my bag of magic tricks-I can pull out an idea when I need it.

The only thing that is useful is the pronunciation IPA. Also it is British English though most schools prefer Canadian pronunciation.
