Review

"Whether you can sew or not, the beautifully simple projects in this book inspire us to sit down at a sewing machine. The book is timely in its encouragement for us all to be creative. I am very enthusiastic about the fact that more people are taking up the art of sewing, and I urge everyone to look with pleasure at these lovely patterns."
--Martha Stewart
"Jocelyn Worrall is such a clever artist! Her take on the wonderful world of crafts is inspiring, fun, and highly practical. All in all, an easy joy!"
--Todd Oldham

Product Description

Simple Gifts to Stitch is proof-positive that simple does not mean plain. Elegant, handmade presents are always a welcome gift and quick and easy projects are just as gratifying to craft as complex ones. Jocelyn Worrall guides readers through 32 projects for occasions ranging from birthdays to housewarming and baby showers with designs which are not only quintessentially modern but also have that special, personal touch. In sewing, as in other walks of life, improvisation is often the key to success. As Jocelyn Worrall knows well, handmade gifts are less expensive, more appreciated and can be tailored to the individual. There are 32 projects of varying complexity - none requiring more than an afternoon to craft - all arranged under the following headings: Gifts for Birthdays and Holidays, Gifts for House Warming and Hosts, Gifts for babies and Children. From throws and fabric boxes to totes and scarves to a baby rattle and bib, set your gifts apart from the rest.

What a good buy 29 Aug 2007
By Cikk - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've bought quite a few of the recent crop of sewing books. Some of them were a waste of cash and are a waste of shelf space. This one is one of the few - very few! - that isn't. The projects are simple but beautiful and original, the bag on the cover is a great example. She has some very stylish, cool ideas, and her sensibility is what I call Japanese. Interesting use of pleating and pintucks and overlay of different fabrics. She has gifts to wear like very original scarves and wraps, things for the home, like throws and an apron which even I would wear (and I really don't get this whole apron thing), and stuff for kiddies - including a gorgeous leaf cushion I will make myself. The photography is beautiful, the writing is balanced - not cutesy and not dry (compare Break the Rules Sewing and In Stitches - this is a nice halfway house), the templates are well done and even - I cannot stand rough hand drawn templates - and she also has a very thorough intro..... Recommended....

They really are Elegant and Easy! 27 Jun 2007
By Sal M - Published on Amazon.com

I just received this and I can't wait to start sewing. The projects are unique and fun. The author does a great job of explaining everything, including a full glossary and patterns. If you are a seamstress, or like me, just not afraid of a sewing machine, this is a great book for you. If you are afraid of your sewing machine, this could be the set of projects to tame you fears. I'm off to the fabric store!
