A beautifully presented book with lovely pictures. The projects look charming. I find the instructions less than clear though. There's a panel saying UK double crochet is the same as US single crochet, and so on, but these stiches aren't shown, so I had to try and figure out whether I was crocheting to UK or US specs before. One of the patterns I tried the just would not work - maybe it was me! so I ended up making something up.
In all - probably fine if you're an expert, but for an intermediate crochet'er, "simple" is a bit of a misnomer.

I bought this book when I was expecting my first grandchild. However, I never made any of the clothing in the book, just one of the blankets. The clothing is designed for natural fibers such as wool and cotton, and would be very little used by a busy mother, as these fibres are not easy-care. Both have to be handwashed and blocked while damp. I know that one could substitute other yarns, but it is an indication of a wider problem. The author really doesn't think of these patterns as producing practical clothing, and it shows in other ways, such as impractical fastenings and leggings that won't stay up. She even says that these should be thought of as heirlooms to wear once for a photo and to be put away for posterity. I'm sure that most people who crochet for babies won't appreciate the thought.

Also, and a careful look at the photos will confirm this, most of the clothing is stiff and heavy.

Finally, nearly everything is made with relatively unshaped blocks of simple stitches. (This may explain why the finished pieces are so stiff.) Another reviewer complained that the instructions were too difficult for a beginner. I would complain that the stitches were too monotonous for an experience crocheter.

When I first saw this book, I thought that is exactly what I want!

It is very hard to find any crochet patterns these days. I would have liked to have seen all the patterns in this book before purchasing as if I had been able to do this, I would not have wasted my time (or Amazon's) in buying this book. It did not have the type of patterns in it that I wanted - i.e, there was not much of a choice of babies clothes, more blankets and/or toys.
Therefore, I am sorry to say that I have returned this book and will most likely not bother to order anything else like this from Amazon in the future.

The only fault is that this book is all American stitches . it should be let known to the person buying the book that it is in American.
