I was scouting around for another Beethoven cycle and was about to purchase Rattle's Symphony only set, when I stumled across this fabulous box set which along with the symphonies, also includes an additional live recording of the 5th Symphony, 2 recordings of the 1st Piano Concerto (the other has the Glenn Gould cadenzas), the 2nd Piano Concerto plus the complete Fidelio!!!

With a starry line up of soloists including Lars Vogt on Piano as well as Juliane Banse, Barbara Bonney, Birgit Remmert, Thomas Quasthoff and Thomas Hampson combined with 3 of the worlds greatest orchestras (CBSO, BPO and VPO) this set cannot be rated highly enough.

This is quality modern Beethoven. The superb playing, singing and conducting make up for any lack of documentation in the set. If you want a quality introduction to Beethoven or are looking for another Symphonis cycle then this is the one to go for.
