Officially licensed by the Boeing Corporation, Silverlit's sensational X-Twin F18 Hornet is not only a famous jet fighter, but has also become an air show favourite when flown by the world famous Blue Angels aerobatic team. Silverlit have utilised the latest sophisticated injection moulding technology to achieve a highly detailed foam airframe, and added a removable tricycle undercarriage to allow take off from a smooth surface. The attractive F18 Hornet gift box includes a fully assembled aeroplane supplied ready-to-fly, complete with a pre-installed 2-channel digital proportional radio control system, and an informative flight manual. Suitable for both beginners and enthusiasts, steer the model using differential thrust by simply moving the transmitter joy stick left or right, whilst operating the throttle to climb or descend. Easy to fly outdoors in calm conditions, and made of lightweight flexible foam to withstand the occasional heavy landing. The F18 Hornet incorporates a powerful lithium polymer battery and will fly for up to ten minutes, whilst recharging direct from the transmitter in less than half an hour. The X-Twin aeroplanes are available on 27MHz bands A, B or C, to allow up to three different Silverlit models to be flown together. As colour and frequency varies, we are unable to guarantee which colour product or radio control band you will receive. Requires 6 x AA alkaline batteries (not included).

My son bought this toy with birthday money and absolutely loved playing with but the nose broke off on the third landing even though he was on grass. He had a few more hours of fun with it before it broke beyond repair.

Compared to other remote plane / helicopter toys my son has had this is both robust and gives a good 20-30 minutes "play time" before the battery needs recharging. Recharging is done via a cable from the remote and takes about 15-20 minutes so you don't need to go back home to use the mains. Getting used to the controls does not take more than a couple of sessions and my 11 year old child can fly it for relatively long periods without it landing. Only two really negative points. Firstly it is very light so unless the weather is quite still it can be easily affected by a slight breeze presenting a challenge to keep it airborne. Secondly as with all remote toys the range is limited. Once it has gone beyond about 10-15 meters it does not respond well to the remote control so you either need to follow it or steer it within this radius. I would recommend avoiding areas with trees as being light it can easily get caught in branches out of reach as we have discovered a couple of times. On the whole for around £20 this is quite a reasonable buy.

The company who we purchased this product from gave an outstanding service on delivery, unfortunately the actual product was not durable enough and lasted only 2 uses with careful handling.
