Product Description

Product Description

Officially licensed by Boeing, and placed fourth in The Gadget Show’s prestigious top five flying toys, Silverlit’s V22 Osprey is undoubtedly one of the most unusual planes ever made. It looks like a conventional aeroplane, but features two sets of horizontal main rotors to allow this to take off vertically, just like a helicopter. Silverlit’s innovative indoor micro version will taxi on a smooth surface and lift off on command, incorporating two modes of operation and 3-channel infrared control. With a wingspan of only fifteen centimetres and weighing just twenty nine grams, Silverlit’s stand off scale tribute to the V22 Osprey VTOL represents an outstanding achievement for a model this small. Surprisingly manoeuvrable for such a sophisticated subject, the pair of counter balanced rotors positioned at each wing tip provide superb stability, combined with a convenient pair of set top transmitter trims for precise adjustment. The attractive V22 Osprey gift box includes a fully assembled model supplied ready-to-fly, complete with a pre-installed 3-channel proportional wide beam infrared control system, and an informative flight manual. Suitable for both beginners and enthusiasts, steer the model in helicopter mode by simply moving the transmitter joy stick left or right, whilst operating the throttle to take off, hover and land. Stable and fun to fly indoors in a reasonable size room, it may be flown in a relatively small space by an accomplished micro helicopter pilot. The Osprey is remarkably robust made of lightweight flexible foam, and features a flashing blue LED strobe light. The model incorporates a powerful lithium polymer battery and will fly for up to ten minutes, whilst recharging direct from the transmitter in less than half an hour. The Silverlit infrared Osprey is available on bands A or B, to allow two different models to be flown together. As frequency varies, we are unable to guarantee which remote control band you will receive. Requires 6 x AA alkaline batteries (not included).

Box Contains

  • 1 x Silverlit V22 Osprey Aeroplane supplied ready-to-fly
  • 1 x 3-Channel Remote Control Transmitter with integral Charger
  • 1 x Rechargeable Lithium Polymer Flight Battery incorporated inside model
  • 2 x Replacement Rear Rotors and Removal Tool
  • 1 x Multilingual European Instruction Manual
  • 6 x AA Alkaline Batteries required (not included)

    Silverlit V22 Osprey 7 July 2010

    Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
This toy is probably good as a first introduction to indoor RC rotary flight, but should be sold as such. For the "anoraks" out there, the engine nacelles are mounted sideways instead of being correct, I suspect this is because no-one took the rotor diameter into account until it was too late - if they were true to the actual aircraft design, the blades would collide.
This aside, the design accuracy and detail are the best features.
There is no forward/rearward control, only right/left turn, and throttle, so for anyone looking for a highly-controllable RC helo, this should probably be avoided, as it will be a disapointment. There are other options out there for similar prices that will give you far better controllability, and much more satisfaction. Not terrible, looks good, but a bit of a let-down in flight.

    Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
I recieved it this morning, and am bored of it already. It's a sturdy product, but it was just too simple for me. I trimmed it quickly and by the time i had it flying, it was just too slow to provide any real fun in my terms.

An interesting toy, suitable as a first R/c flying vehicle.
