i bought this axe a couple of weeks ago and i saw that it was obviously a used one as in it was already sharpened and there were scratches all over it which i didnt really mind because you cant moan for the price it is. the major problem i had with it though was that as i chop the wood to make kindling for our coal fires i use it pretty regularly, and today while i was just about to cut a piece of wood the head just came off of the handle and flew across the garden which i think is a pretty big design flaw,when i looked at the two pieces after id stopped laughing it looked as though it was glued on!. my advice is to spend a little more and get a nice hickery or steel shafted axe. thank you.

Firstly, while not a huge problem this axe doesn't come sharpened. Sharpness is overrated however and if you want, it can be sharpened easily. The real problem however is the rapidness with which this item will rust when exposed to even a small amount of moisture. Less than 8 hours after being used to split some logs (a task it performed admirably given it's size) the head had begun to rust even though it had been wiped clean and placed back in it's cover. This is NOT what you need from a tool you expect to use frequently.

Does the business. I use it for chopping roots etc. during gardening and it does this with ease. Pity not sharpened when sent out though.
