4.0 out of 5 stars Silverline 868719 Electronic Water Timer 26 April 2011
    By Simon E
    Verified Purchase
    [UPDATE JULY 2012]
5 more units faulty. Same problem as above with the low battery ICON coming on and nothing wrong with the battery. This low voltage ICON renders the unit inoperable. I have a lifetime warranty with SILVERLINE and so I hope they honour same. PLEASE SORT THIS PROBLEM OUT AS IT RUINS an OTHERWISE 5* PROGRAMMING PERFORMANCE. PLEASE.

[update 04 November 2011] This is an update - as suspected after more continuous use there IS a problem with the firm ware - even after having removed the battery for over a day and "re-booting" then re-inserting the battery the low battery icon still shows rendering the system totally useless. AMAZON sent two more next day (I ordered nine) when I raised this with them. I think SILVERLINE give a life time warranty anyway - I still give the unit 4 stars as it is VERY easy to program and when it works it works very well. As I ordered from AMAZON direct I still give them ***** (5) as they ALWAYS respond well to problems.

I purchased nine of these units. All have been installed or checked for use as spare(s). We have a mixture of timers. The Silverline (which I had never heard of which rely on water pressure to open and close the valve) and use a single 9V battery (supplied - nice touch!) and the Rain Bird WTD 2900 - which have a battery operated valve (2 x 1.5V). The only real reason for giving the Silverline 4 Stars **** is because the flap colour is in fact florescent orange. This colour may well change with sunlight. The very dark grey units from RainBird are a much better colour for a garden environment. I never worry about buying goods directly from Amazon using their prime delivery service.

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete rubbish 14 May 2010
I bought one of these originally from ShoppingCentre through Amazon. It did not work, and I returned it; no hassle - ShoppingCentre were responsive and took care of it. I assumed I had been unlucky. I then bought another one immediately, directly from Amazon (SH were out of stock). This second unit did not work either, and I returned it today - Amazon as usual making this painless.

Basically both units had the same fault - they simply do not stop the water flow when set to the 'off' position. Yes, I do know how to operate such simple devices, the battery was fine, and there is no issue with high water pressure.

I can only assume there is a design or manufacturing fault, but either way there is clearly no effective quality control deployed in the manufacturing process, so I'd personally avoid 'Silverline' products like the plague.

I have heard of design issues with Hozelock, but have had good previous experience with Gardena timers (until one froze solid this Winter - which is my own fault), so I'm afraid I'll end up paying double the price for a Gardena unit. Pity the C1030-Plus isn't currently offered by Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars It Works!!! 8 May 2009
Last year we bought 4 of these timers and 2 of a cheaper model. They are very easy and simple to programme, and they were in full time use last year. We have just set them up again for this summer and still all in working order. By comparison, the cheaper model were a nightmare to programme and no longer work!! Guess what we will be replacing them with??!!

A COUPLE OF YEARS ON AND WE ARE STILL USING THESE TIMERS. HAVE RECOMMENDED THEM TO MANY FRIENDS. ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT AMAZON DON'T SEEM TO BE SELLING THEM AT THE MOMENT:(

4.0 out of 5 stars good device with limitations 29 July 2010
The device works well and reliably. Unlike the equivalent hozelock device the valve is actuated by water pressure. Specifically it seems to shut off positively but requires water pressure to fully open. I bought this device to time watering from a water butt. The pressure from the butt was insufficient to properly open the valve - only a slow trickle of water emerged. On connecting it to a tap with mains pressure it worked perfectly and that's where it now lives. If you want a timer to work from a garden tap this is a great buy. If you want something that works on a low pressure system buy a device with a fully motorised valve like the hozelock system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seems Like It Does What Is Says It Does On The Box 23 April 2011
Just got this so can't yet comment on reliability. Put it on the tap, programmed it and away it went no problem, comes on when its supposed to and goes off when its supposesd to. Seems like good value compared to the price of Gardena or Hozelock, and has plenty of programming options. 3 year guarantee offered via website registration. No complaints so far, time will tell if reliability is good or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Water Timer 10 Aug 2010
    Verified Purchase
    Easy to use water timer.
Pro's: simple instructions, works well, nice size display.
cons: the only thing I can find as a con was that if you cancel a programme you cannot just set the timer to 00:00 to start and stop because it will run 24hrs. However canceling the programme to --:-- will do the trick.

All in all I would buy another!

    5.0 out of 5 stars Silverline 868719 water timer 27 Sep 2009
    Silverline 868719 Electronic Water Timer

This is a brilliant easy to use timer. I bought this because we previously bought the hoselock timer Hozelock Aqua Control Water Timer which is a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME!!!
Amazon customer service was brilliant and the original faulty hoselock timer was replaced by another one which lasted 3 days, the battery compartment kept filling with water destroying the batteries and rusting the contacts! they then refunded our money and I bought this silverline one. I have not had any problems with this one and would highly recommend it. Its well worth the extra tenner :-)
