Having compared this sprinkler with a much more expensive model and noticed no obvious difference apart from the paint colour, I decided to take a chance and purchased it. I had previously used a plastic pulse sprinkler, so was familiar with the principle and also how plastic can become brittle in time! I was pleasantly surprised to find this Silverline sprinkler was all metal with no obvious flimsy parts likely to snap off. The ground spike is made of an alloy and looks as though it wouldn't take much abuse, so I am careful when pushing it into and removing it from the ground. The top part is some kind of painted cast metal and seems very robust. The moveable adjusters which control the size of the arc are metal. The instructions printed on the packaging card are minimal but just enough to give a clue! The "Adjustable collars" (arc adjusters) allow more or less any coverage up to 360 degrees. (If you want full 360 degrees, you need to flip up the wire "clip" so that it does not hit either of the 2 "Adjustable collars". I suspect the reviewer who said it only goes round and round had not flipped the "clip" down so that it missed the "Adjustable collars" . The reach/pattern of the water can be adjusted from a far-reaching single jet to a shorter range spray by moving the shiny silver "diffuser" down so it partially deflects the water jet. Adjustment of the "Diffuser", along with achieving a slight downward angle when pushing the spike in the ground can ensure that water is directed to plants and thus avoids soaking nearby walls or sheds. On the opposite side to the push-fit hose connector is a black plastic cap covering a 3/4" BSP external thread. I assume this is for attaching another hose connector in series. I have noticed with this and another pulse sprinkler that if the water pressure is substantially reduced, its operation can be affected, even causing it to stop moving. For this reason I believe you would need to have an extremely good water pressure to consider running two or more of these sprinklers in series.
