3.0 out of 5 stars Beware voltage 15 July 2010
Verified Purchase
This is a good basic trickle charger which works well, although there are no led indicator lights to show this; but there are some things to watch out for;- Although the output on the transformer states 15 volts, when open circuit,it is delivering 26 volts. This means you must keep an eye on the voltage of the battery, especially if it is a sealed lead acid battery, as most are these days. As the battery becomes fully charged, the voltage will rise. If battery voltage rises above about 14.4 volts,(dependant on its temperature),it will start to gas,(bubble), which is ok for a battery that can be kept topped up, but not for a sealed low maintenance battery. Voltages beyond this will not just cause gassing, but prolonged higher voltage may cause plate damage. Invest in a voltmeter to check and you will be fine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lawn Mower Power Battery 28 April 2009
By Tiler
I found this low price item ideal for keeping my lawn mower in use. I did try a car type charger and it was no good for the job. Yes it,s well worthwhile for trickle charging a 12 volt battery. The lead to the clips was a little too long but that is a small price to pay for the item.

1.0 out of 5 stars Potentially dangerous 7 Jun 2009
By Tony H
I used this item in order to charge a 12v battery. Having connected it up to the battery I left it for 24 hours to trickle charge.

When I returned I noticed that the casing of the plug had melted somewhat allowing the transformer casing to be seen. As I had it connected to an extension and laid it on its side, the hard plastic it was laying on had also partially melted. The plug itself, unsuprisingly, smelled of burnt plastic.

As you can see this unit is potentially dangerous and unless you need a new garage, the old one having burnt to the ground :) , I would not buy this trickle charger!

5.0 out of 5 stars It Trickles it Works 9 Sep 2009
I had a dead battery in an old car and needed to start it up. I tried to use jump leads but to no avail. A 'proper' professional charger was out of the question, so I tried the Silverline. I left it on charge for about 30 hours. The transformer was warm but not too hot to handle.

So if you are not in a hurry this does the job. The connection cable is not very long, but as I always take the battery out to charge it fully, this was not a problem. It may be long enough for most people, it depends on whether you can get your car into the garage. I can't as the garage is full of stuff.

For the money it is a useful device and straight forward to use. Given the price it is great value for money.
