i'd like to rate 3.5 stars really as i had a few issues but i think i've overcome them and the bandsaw can now service my needs

Cons:
- The table was not level. I set the table at 90deg to the blade on the left side, i then put square on right side and it was approx 1 to 2deg out. Not much but enough so that when you put a straight edge from left to right it rocks on the peak (left side of the relief slot for changing the blade).
* Silverline's reply was an entry level bandsaw is not what i require and i should return to seller.
- Cuts veer in thicker and harder wood. If cutting free hand i'd approach blade at approx 5deg to allow for this. No issues on thin materials (e.g. 6mm ply)
- The lower guides seem a bit far from table and too close to lower wheel in my opinion.
- The guides are not great to adjust. You get it where you want then tighten with allen key and this moves the guide. Not a big deal, but frustrating at first. I ended up setting very close (not even paper gap) to blade with bearing about 1.5mm behind.
- As mentioned by many the blade supplied with bandsaw is poor quality and the main reason it's difficult to get a straight cut in thicker/harder wood.
- The Rip guide is adequate at best
- The push mitre guide on right is not a great fit in it's slot and has some play, so care must be used that you push forward and to side. Practice needed. Plus ensure you check your 90deg is correct, about 90.5 was right for mine. Then just a case of moving alignment marker pin.

Pros:
- It's cheap... i'm a sucker for that!
- Very quiet. I got some goggles and ear defenders for usage. I use the goggles but only use defenders when hover (attached for extraction) used.

Over the years Silverline products have improved in quality, this bandsaw is a testament to that improvement. I have managed to cut a variety of materials with great ease as a result of having this saw in my workshop. I recommend it , but as with all tools regardless of price respect it when using it else it will under perform , break or you WILL hurt yourself. I bought two extra blades as a result of reading poor reviews of the one supplied. I have found it to be suitable for all my needs , cutting plywood from 6mm to 50mm aluminium rod. I have I feel tested this saw to the extreme and it has proven worthy. 100% recommended.

This bandsaw worked well after setting up properly. As other users have mentioned, the blade it comes with is pretty poor, if your cutting larger pieces of wood you should invest in a more expensive and wider blade. I tried the Draper blades and it was much better than the Silverline, as reflected in the increased cost. It has an outlet for attaching a hoover to reduce mess, and 4 holes in the cast iron base so that you can bolt it to a surface, for light work you can just clamp it down firmly to avoid slippage. The power of the machine, and the blade clearance are not great and limit you to smaller pieces of wood. I've tried using this with large pieces of wood and it has been a slow process, expect any woods over an inch to go quite slow, especially hardwoods, but if you don't try to push it through too hard it will do the job. I can see why some people have marked down this a lot, as they are probably used to more powerful bandsaws, but if this is all you can afford then it will probably do the job. One thing I almost forgot, it came shipped with a fuse in the plug not strong enough for the ampage, I found this out when it died on me - I replaced the fuse and then all was well, it may just have been on the one I was sent, rather than a problem on them all.

Had this given to me by a friend, as it stopped working, so he bought a similar replacement. When I got it the power switch had been remove in a attempt to fix it.

The real problem was that the knobs for closing the cover were spinning on the M6 stud, thus were not holding the door closed, so the cut-out switch then stopped the saw working. The knobs could not be tightened, or removed from the stud, even with an impact driver, as they were fixed with thread lock, so they had to be cut off and replaced with M6 studding and lock nuts.

Had to spend a few hours repairing these knobs, as it also required removing the cover mending the knobs and reassembling. Also had to use a tap to clean out the M6 threads for these screws and also the M4 threads holding the cable connection and switch button plates. Then had to adjust the blade guides.

After all this it turns out to be quite a useful saw. I had been considering buying a similar one, and would have bought either a reduce used one, or a cheaper alternative.

Clearly the quality is not that wonderful, but it is inexpensive and good enough for hobby use, but you need to be prepared to make some adjustment and repairs from time to time.
