I had read various reviews on such products without much luck. They nearly all sounded
as though they weren't much use.
I bought this regardless, to help me check out a wall prior to hanging a 26" TV.
Tapping the wall suggested that it was a cavity wall but this thing suggested otherwise.
It was correct - it was the plaster layer causing the hollow sound.
I was able to identify the battens OK on a genuine partition wall and able to identify the
electricity supply on the brick wall.
The TV is now in use.
You do need to play around with this sort of unit to make sure you understand it before you
use it for real. If you do that you should be fine.

Like everything you pay for what you get, and this is no exception. I have found it to be reasonably accurate, I just don't rely on it at 1st attempt. I make several tests at various points to work out the path of the joist or pipes before committing to any drilling. It hasn't failed me yet.

These types of products seem to have variable reviews on amazon and I was initially disapointed as it was so sensitive the alarm went off about 2 inches away from the wall! However whilst in the local diy shop I saw an identical product (£5 more) which stated in the item description it came with a screwdriver to adjust sensitivty.
Low and bold on opening battery compartment I found a small platic bit (attached to compartment lid) which allows adjust through the screws on the back. I adjusted the sensitivity and it worked fine. It would appear you can adjust the metal/volt meter as well.
Good product, poor instructions. On the plus sdie mine came with battery included.

Does not do what it says on the tin
Bought this detector to use around the home for DIY jobs. Immediately realised it could not detect wall studs at all, but did locate some cables that I already new were there. Read more

Reasonable
Worked ok once you got used to it, pity builders did not read the notes on the wall. Would have been better if it said it came with battery, could have saved me some money.

rubbish -waste of money
Don't waste your time and money on this product I am an electrical engineer and beleive me I could not get this to work on anything behind plasterboard -can't beleive they can sell... Read more

Silverline Detector
Easy to use. Detected electrical cables OK but couldn't find the wooden battens in a dividing wall. I had to tap the wall and listen to the change in sound to try and locate them.

'3 in 1' is actually '2 in 1'
The 'Stud Finder' function on this item doesn't work, however the metal detector and live wire detector seem to work fine. Read more

Did not detect LIVE wires!
After spending 30 minutes going around and around turned on light switches and plugs to attempt to detect live wires this product failed consistantly to detect. Read more
