I had an American made original version (Diamond Machine Technology)of this sharpener given as a present several years ago and have been very pleased with it. It is now worn and I tried to get another one. This is a lookalike but very poor quality by comparison. The diamond seems to work ok but I fear it may quickly wear off as everything else is poor quality.

The diamond plates are quite flimsy and it's a bit of a race as to whether the diamond dust wears off before the plates become unstuck from the plastic.
If you're OK with a ±20° angle go with the Gerber diamond knife sharpener. If you're serious about sharpening by hand try the Fällkniven DC3 or DC4. If you're really serious about sharpening get one of the Lansky kits.

Good size, works well and folds up nicely for protection in the toolbox.
I would prefer it in a bright colour, but all in all a very useful adjunct to my toolbox.

short life
The sharpener works very well with all kinds of knives. Unfortunately due to thin diamond layer it wears out too quickly but I guess you can't expect too much for the price.
