Having purchased a Z68-based motherboard, I needed an internal USB 3.0 adapter that could be installed on my motherboard instead of routing the USB 3.0 header cable with a Type-A connector to the rear of my chassis and use up one of my valuable USB 3.0 ports. I purchased the SST-CP09 with the idea that I could accomplish my goal but was a bit disappointed with the experience.
The adapter cable is very short, perhaps five inches in length, and of those five inches, 2-3 inches are taken up by the connector plugs. The remaining length is the cable itself, which is extremely rigid and does not flex easily. I was able to mitigate this issue somewhat with a hairdryer on low heat which made the cable a bit more pliable and easier to work with.
Unfortunately, making the cable more flexible using a hair dryer doesn't help the fact that the cable is simply not long enough. For example, in my Corsair 600T, you cannot route the adapter behind the motherboard tray because the cable length is much too short. In the end, the adapter stuck straight out of my motherboard as though the motherboard were growing an extra appendage.
While I wasn't overly pleased in the application of the adapter cable for my needs, I must say that it is built extremely well. Silverstone is known for producing quality products, and this USB 3.0 adapter is both well constructed and affordable. Enthusiasts looking for an internal USB 3.0 adapter cable, and do not mind its short length, will find that this is a terrific product.
There are situations in which this adapter is perfect in certain applications such as those found in HTPC or small form factor cases. However, for those that want a clean case interior without wiring sticking out everywhere, the SST-CP09 may not be what you are looking for when it comes to selecting this internal USB 3.0 adapter cable.
