Having looked over a copy of this in the workshop library, I decided to buy my own copy, and it has proved to be very worthwhile. As well as outlining clear techniques for creating filigree wire and filigran, it offers comprehensive instructions and clear photographs for cutting, soldering, pickling and polishing. At the start of the book there are also copious photographs of some of the finest filigree produced internationally, and at the back a section on design techniques. You may find these superfluous or not - I didn't get much from the advice on how to design, prepare and lay out pieces, but I did enjoy swooning over the artistry at the start!

Bottom line; if you are looking to get a start into making wire (as opposed to pierced) filigree, this is a great book to start with.

I admit to being a little disappointed.

Like so many 'craft' books offered these days, this is a book for complete novices. As usual, most of the book is given over to explaining the use of a few simple tools and techniques.
There's little of interest to anyone who already has a basic knowledge of silversmithing or even general metalworking.

The book is saved from the recycle bin by the fact that there are some quite pretty designs in the many photographs,

This book is perfect and the best starting point to any jeweller who aspires to add filigree to their repertoire.

This book is great if you want to start out doing basic silver smithing. It's designed for people who don't have workshops and outlines basic kit needed. Great book!
