Don't allow money to ruin your child

Being an affluent parent comes with its own particular set of concerns and responsibilities. This is relevant not only to the superrich but also to the millions of families whose children are exposed to material abundance. While many parents know how to capitalize on their wealth financially, they aren't as certain how to make sure money doesn't spoil their children. This expert handbook can show you how. A mix of practical tips, instructive real-life stories and anecdotes, and highly effective advice, Silver Spoon Kids addresses the how and the equally important why of instilling in your family a healthy relationship with money in your family. Here you'll find out how to:

  • Talk to your child about money in general--and your money specifically
  • Be sure your child doesn't become spoiled
  • Use an allowance to teach your child to use money responsibly
  • Foster a philanthropic outlook in your child
  • Define your family's most important values and communicate them effectively
  • Avoid your nightmare of an unmotivated, underachieving, materialistic child

Also included are helpful checklists, self-tests, and Silver Nuggets--brief bits of wisdom and advice that you can quickly put to use. In an age of unprecedented wealth, unlimited credit, and rampant materialism, this practical, timely book can help you raise well-adjusted, emotionally and financially secure children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this book along with your Dr. Spock!! 3 May 2002
By Paula K. Litt - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I work in the field of philanthropy have hosted many workshops on issues of children and money. The four hours I spent reading this book were the most educational and fruitful four hours I have ever spent on issues of how to raise children!! Whether your family is middle class or affluent, you will benefit from this book. In my opinion, the lessons offered by the Gallos on values and raising children go far beyond issues of money. I believe it is really a guide to raising well rounded and socially responsible children. I know I will return again and again to the chapters in this book both personally and professionally. Buy this book and read it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great advice for parents 18 Feb 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I found this to be a very helpful book in dealing with kids and money. There is practical advice on topics such as allowance, helping kids set budgets, influencing your childrens' purchasing decisions (or not) and other good items. It is written for the lay person without any prior knowledge of pyschology. The book is an easy read and covers the topic very thoroughly. A great tool for all parents.
