Product Description

Description

In 2007, and out of Detroit of all places, chugged the Southern rock record of the decade. The Deadstring Brothers' sophomore effort, SILVER MOUNTAIN, does everything so right--chiming Rhodes chords, blazing pedal-steel solos, great songwriting hooks, and gritty male/female blue-eyed-soul vocal trade-offs--recalling vintage Mother Earth, BROTHERS AND SISTERS-era Allmans, or A NOD IS AS GOOD AS A WINK-era Faces. But SILVER MOUNTAIN is no mere retro exercise, as it roars on every track with the intensity of a true revival. Sometimes a band just gets it. This is one of those times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic. Fun. Furious. Full fat., 5 Feb 2008

Afficionados reckon this is second best but it does it for me.

The Exile/ Stones analogy is tired but still appropriate. There's a fair bit of Gram/ Burritos/ Fallen Angels and Masha nearly does Emmylou on the title track. But there's also a big dose of where the Faces could have headed if Ry had joined them and Britt hadn't shown up.

Try and see them live for the full unpasteurised effect.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great band, retro yet modern etc, 8 Jan 2009
By noddy g (yorkshire, england) - See all my reviews
This is actually the third album by the deadstring brothers. The first was 'Deadstring brothers' and the second 'Staving winter report' All are really good. They are essentially a classic band led by Kurt who have had a few line up changes , but like the Byrds , always atrract the best musicians about into their ranks. They have their own take on the music but comparisions with The Band /Exile Stones/ etc are both fair , yet possibly a bit limiting. Its got that bar room blues with immesnce credibility, and I would recomend it and all their albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Foot-Stomping, Thigh-Slapping, Hoedown-ing, 22 Feb 2008
By James Berry "Per Ardua Pro Patria" (Guildford, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Silver Mountain is the first album release by this Detroit-based group, although they have been together since 2002.

The album opens with the foot-stomping, thigh-slapping, hoedown-ing "Ain't No Hidin' Love" and just gets better the longer you listen. Their sound is akin to the Rolling Stones "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and "Honky Tonk Woman" shaken with The Eagles, and smashed back - straight up no ice.

Silver Mountain delivers on all levels, whether it be a rock ballad "If You Want Me To" or the hard rockin' "Queen of the Scene". A superb album. Listen with a bottle of whiskey. You need this music.
