Product Description

About the Author

Adrian Bell (1901-1980) was born in Lancashire, grew up in London, and was educated at Uppingham School which he hated. His father, news editor of the Observer, was a republican and a socialist and had no truck with university education. His son was to do something useful; in 1920 he went to East Anglia to work as a farm apprentice. He subsequently became a farmer himself. These experiences provide the material for his famous rural trilogy, Corduroy, Silver Ley and The Cherry Tree. In total he wrote over twenty-five books, he also set the first Times in 1930 and continued to devise crosswords for the paper for the next thirty years.

Format: Kindle Edition
I recently read Adrian Bell's excellent book "Corduroy", and was pleased to find that the two other books in the trilogy were available as Kindle books. I bought them both and have now read most of Silver Ley, but I am struggling. The book is just so full of misprints it is almost impossible to read. There must be over a hundred, including the unfortunate replacement of "excitement at the lowering of the lights" with "excitement at the lowering of the tights"! I have been in touch with Amazon and they have offered me a refund, which I am tempted to accept, but I would like to know if other Kindle books suffer from the same problems. What I really want is a replacement minus the mistakes - this is a hard book to get hold of in proper book form. Surely no book has ever left the printers with so many misprints, particularly not one published by Faber.

I have only recently discovered Adrian Bell. He gives glimpses into a simpler existence that I am sure many of us wish we could return to. A taste of traditions and "old England". Can't wait to read more.

A beautiful and unusual Christening Gift, that could increase in value by the time the recipient reaches adult age.
