5.0 out of 5 stars Little Gem 16 July 2010
Verified Purchase
I am not an explorer, but I spend lots of time in the outdoors of Scotland and I have found this tiny little compass has become a great friend. No, it could never replace a full size compass, but then it was never designed for that. However, as an every day, permanently attached assistant, it instantly becomes a valued and trusted tool that is perfect for its intended task, relatively accurate and with that inherent Silva build quality. If you don't always have a full size compass with you, or just as an occasional direction finder, the Silva 40 is unsurpassed at this price. And the night time visibility and usage is actually surprisingly good. Can't recommend it highly enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple; does was it says on the tin. 11 April 2010
Verified Purchase
Reliable, tough, fits onto watch-strap with ease, though be careful if you have a wide strap. Luminescence could be better in low light (reliant on being in strong light before hand, so needs to be exposed & not under sleeve.)
Only useful as a reliable guide, and not suitable to take accurate bearing from. Match watch strap is silicone, but there's a whole lot of steel in the watch case. The compass seems unaffected by its close proximity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silva portable watch strap compass 29 Dec 2009
As Silva manufacture the best compasses, it is no surprise that this little compass is everything it should be. With a robust casing and easy-to-read luminous compass points and face, this is an ideal companion if travelling. It is perfect if on walkabout abroad and you don't want to draw attention to yourself if you find yourself lost. Top product, top seller - I received it literally das after purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little compass 16 Oct 2011
This little compass fits on your watch strap. You need to slide it away from the watch body and next to the buckle, or the watch body is apt to deviate it. If the buckle is steel that will deviate it too, in which case get a second strap and wear it on the other wrist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does the trick! 4 April 2012

Outdoors Dad wasn't kidding when he described this item as a little gem. It is indeed a gem, but it's also very small. Don't be fooled by the size of the illustration. But at the end of the day it's a compass, it's easy to read, and it's a very useful tool for multiple purposes ranging from orienteering to simply checking where North is, for siting a birds' nesting box for instance. It's black plastic and it's face is luminous, so you can still check where North is in the dark. Five stars for functionality and price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good 11 Mar 2012

The packaging suggest attaching to an existing watch strap. Not sure about that for a few obvious reasons. I'd rather it was on my other wrist and for this reason it could have done with it's own strap. That aside you won't find a better name and it is a useful piece of kit rather than a mere gadget.

5.0 out of 5 stars great little compass 15 Sep 2011
Great little compass and at a great price. Strap loop is big enough to slide over my g-shock gulfman and is in use daily. Ideal piece of kit to quickly orientate yourself on the ground in both a military and civilian application. Clear bright face is good at night too. Seller was very helpfull when there was a problem and couldn't do enough to rectify it, would definitely use again and would recommend. A*

Slips nicely on to my Seiko Kinetic steel band. Looks cool I think! Great for navigating around cities on foot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Silva wristlet compass
Needs to be charged to glow at night, needle-plate doesn't move freely. Otherwise if you can hold steady enough it's pretty accurate.

2.0 out of 5 stars Polarised!
I had this for a week, it worked fine and then it polarised on me. It is obviously therefore VERY magnetically susceptible.

5.0 out of 5 stars little gem
Get it reasonably level and it gives a a basic bearing - have compared to a proper compass and it works.
Handy to have for sure!
